Let’s get this out of the way first: safety Tyrann Matheiu is a hometown hero for Saints fans, and maybe the free agent they covet most on the market. Signing him would fill a big need at defensive back. But odds aren’t good that Mathieu could return to New Orleans. He spoke a few years ago about receiving death threats on trips to the city, explaining that he wouldn’t spend more than two days in New Orleans after past incidents. He’s since hosted youth football camps at the Saints practice facility and expressed his love for his hometown, but Saints fans shouldn’t get their hopes up if he’s seriously fearing for his life. ...
