Up to 7 commits after today with the verbal of Joseph Evans, a 6-foot-2, 300-pound defensive tackle from Haynesville High School.

So, I'll update what I've read and heard on this class which is starting out very well.

OT Kenyon Green (6-5, 312) is widely considered the top 1-2 OTs in the country next year. Grimes got on his early and he's pretty locked in. You might eventually see him decommit so he can take visits at other schools (like Kelvin Joseph in 2018 class) but he's widely expected to be a lock as long as Orgeron and Grimes are around in February of 2019. He's an athletic monster with that nasty streak you need in a OT.

OG Kardell Thomas (6-4, 320) is widely considered the top 1-2 OGs in the country for the 2019 class. He's been committed for a while now and he has several current Southern Lab teammates who are soon to be Tigers. He's an athletic freak and has powerful, natural strength. Some of you may recall him running the anchor leg in a 4x100 relay last Spring. It was one of those "gag" relays the throwers run, but he motors around the track pretty impressively and by the end of the lap, no one is laughing.

CB Maurice Hampton (5-11, 190) jumped in pretty quickly to claim his spot at DBU. He's been committed to LSU since Miles and Manieri offered him. He's a consensus Top 10 player at his position right now. He's also a helluva centerfielder and is expected top try his hand at both sports while at LSU. He has fast hands and a nice, short swing, too. The two-sport thing doesn't appear to be a gag. He's very a good baseball player. So good in fact that LSU might need to worry about losing him to the draft.

RB Tyrion Davis (6-1, 215) is a teammate of Kardell Thomas and received offers from both LSU and Bama in the same week. A few days later he commits to LSU. He grew up on the same street at Guice and they're good friends. His commitment is a story similar to Miles Brennan. Initially he was going to wait it out a bit and shared that with his family. Then as Orgeron was leaving his home during a visit, he blurted out that he was committing. He's big, fast, powerful, not as violent as Fournette but he's not easy to bring down or catch. As a sophomore, he was named the MVP of the state championship game.

OT Thomas Perry (6-5, 325) is another athletically gifted, baby-faced man-child with long arms and size. He possess very good quickness and lateral movement considering his size and age. Still a bit raw and undeveloped, he might take a couple years before he sees significant playing time at LSU. His father is Adam Perry who played at LSU 1993-1997.

LS Quentin Skinner (6-0, 235) the next long snapper from Buford, GA is headed to LSU. I am assuming that the Ferguson family is out of children. LSU seems to have created a pipeline for an important, but unheralded position. #LSU (Long Snapper U)

DT Joseph Evans (6-1, 300) was offered and then committed before most teams even heard about him. His coaches sent a tape to LSU and Orgeron visited him during the Bye Week. He is not yet ranked and I'm not sure he's even visited LSU yet, but the staff at LSU was pretty impressed by what they saw on film. LSU was his very first football scholarship offer. Yale has shown interest in him for shotput (50') and discus (137') which is just ridiculous.

...and that's where we stand right now.

I wouldn't call Kenyon Green all the way locked in yet. He has taken multiple visits to A&M and Texas.

This weekend was the "Elite Junior Day" function for the 2019 class. Scuttlebutt around the internet is that the following kids were in town for the event:

Thomas Perry
Joseph Evans
Ray Parker
Tyrion Davis*
Kardell Thomas*
Donte Starks
Derek Stingley
Devonta Lee
Trey Palmer
Devin Bush
Noah Cain
Ishmael Sopsher

Not pictured:
Grant Gunnell
Jalen Curry

It's my understanding that Gunnell and Curry both arrived later in the day for the visit. I'm not sure if it was planned that way. They are teammates, so it sounds like they drove over from Houston together. The only name missing from that list that I expected was RB John Emery from Destrehan. Ray Parker is listed as a OT in some publications, but LSU is recruiting him as a TE I read.

All of these kids outside of Parker, Perry and Joseph are considered "elite" at their respective positions. If LSU finishes with these kids, it would be a top 5 class and almost doesn't matter who else is added.

This weekend is the SPE Camp in Sulpher, LA with a lot of talent on site. Many of the west coast kids will be dropping by LSU over the weekend to take advantage of the close proximity to Baton Rouge. Here are a few of the names who hold interest from LSU in the 2019 class:
  • CB Chris Steele (6-1, 188) Bellflower, CA
  • QB DJ Uiagalelei (6-4, 240) Bellflower, CA
  • WR Elias Ricks (6-2, 180) Santa Ana, CA
All three I understand are expected to drop by campus before heading back to CA.

Top QB target Grant Gunnells has decommited from TAMU.

Time for the dominos to fall...

ISHMAEL SOPSHER has moved up to the number one recruit in the nation. If this this class doesn't implode like this year, LSU could pull off the top class in the nation.

A couple MS kids committed today. 6-5, 265 DE Jaren Handy with offers from anyone that matters came in with two other friends today. He's a consensus top 10 DE in the country. The second kid today is 6-2, 217 ILB Zach Edwards. He does a little bit of everything, including put his hands in the dirt and rush the QB. Edwards is a top 15 ILB in the country and is expected to rise as he gathers offers and makes the camp circuit. He attends Starkville HS, so this recruitment isn't over by a long shot.

This gives LSU a meaningless ranking of top 3 right now. Both LA and MS are stacked for this class, BTW.
