Expect lots of dunks and lots of blocks next season?!

Seven picks after selecting Zion Williamson first overall, the New Orleans Pelicans chose his potential future frontcourt running mate in Jaxson Hayes out of the University of Texas with the eighth pick of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Standing 6’11 and possessing a 7’4 reach, Hayes is often compared to Clint Capela of the Houston Rockets. The hope is that he can morph into a similar athletic rim runner whose length, hops and quickness should make him an excellent rim protector as well as offer enough versatility to guard multiple positions.

Not surprisingly, executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin holds a similar vision and believes the Pelicans now boast the most athletic front court in the league.

There’s no doubt, Lonzo Ball is going to have a LOT of fun throwing passes to so many high-flyers!

ICYMI: New Orleans received the eighth pick from the Atlanta Hawks a few hours ago when the Pelicans traded the fourth pick (via the Los Angeles Lakers) and Solomon Hill to the Hawks for their 8th, 17th and 35th picks in this draft. In addition, a protected 2020 first-round pick from the Cavaliers was included in that deal.
