It’s a good news/bad news sort of thing.

Zion Williamson lasted about as long as Frank Jackson did one year ago in the Las Vegas Summer League — a single half of basketball.

In other words, the New Orleans Pelicans biggest draw was limited to the shortest of glimpses in exhibition play and now we have to wait until the preseason schedule comes around next September to view a tantalizing talent once again.

Selfish reasons aside, David Griffin is undoubtedly making the correct call here.

Injury Update:

Zion Williamson, who left last night’s game against the Knicks with a bruised left knee, will not participate in the remainder of the NBA Summer League, David Griffin announced today.

Zion got his feet wet, showed the explosion that we had hoped to see, and most importantly, the Pelicans are just being overly cautious, but now it’s time for the future face of the franchise to concentrate on getting his body right for the 2019-20 campaign — recovering from this pesky knee-to-knee bruise and focusing on his overall conditioning.

As for the rest of the roster, it sure would be nice for the Anthony Davis trade to get finalized with the Los Angeles Lakers soon because we all want to see Jaxson Hayes and Nickeil Alexander-Walker!!!

With De’Andre Hunter reportedly seen in the stands ahead of the Hawks matchup with the Bucks, it doesn’t sound like today will be the day that the Pelicans announce the newest members of the roster and have the 8th and 17th picks via Atlanta in uniform.

Thankfully, we still have Frank Jackson and Kenrich Williams looking to build off solid game 1 showings. In addition, Christian Wood should be available and Zylan Cheatham, Kavell Bigby-Williams and Aubrey Dawkins could make another positive impression as well.

Geaux Pels!
