I don't know about Louisiana anglers, but here in Alabama there are too many damn snapper. Hell, my wife caught one this fall at the jetties in 12' of water. I personally saw the biggest snapper on average caught last season during our piddly 40 days. They may as well close down the whole snapper fishery seeing as how we'll probably only get 7 of those days that are fishable. Forget assault rifles, I want my damn fish.

Yeah... That 2 Snapper limit we have here makes it not worth the effort.

So, it looks like LA is gonna overrule the Feds:

Red snapper anglers to get long season in extended Louisiana waters | NOLA.com

So that means Louisiana will move ahead with its plan to open open red snapper fishing in state waters beginning March 23. Thereafter, the season will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through September, and will also be open Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Anglers will each be limited to three red snapper, measuring no less than 16 inches long, per day.

"Kind of like smoking a joint in Colorado?" Carpenter asked.

"Exactly," Pausina responded.

Florida has now made their season 44 days:

Red Snapper Update: The FWC Commission has proposed a 44-day recreational red snapper season for Gulf state waters. This proposal was made at the February Commission meeting and will be brought for final public hearing at the April meeting in Tallahassee. The proposed season will start June 1 and end July 15.

The Feds are looking like they want to play hardball:

At best, Texas' offshore recreational anglers this year might have a 27-day window beginning June 1 during which they can catch and keep their paltry two-fish daily limit of red snapper when fishing Gulf of Mexico waters beyond the state's 9-nautical-mile boundary.

That window for taking red snapper, for decades the most popular target species of the state's offshore anglers, from Gulf water under federal jurisdiction could be as narrow as 11 days.

And if things really go south, that window could be shut - anglers might not be allowed to keep any red snapper when fishing outside Texas territorial waters.
