Heard that today during the broadcast. Didn't completely shock me, with John Carney, Mark Brunell, and that 37 year old Long Snapper we got skewing the age a good bit, but it seemed misleading.
So I tracked down the age of our major contributors on offense
Drew Brees - 30
Reggie Bush - 24
Mike Bell - 26
Pierre Thomas - 25
Marques Colston - 26
Lance Moore - 26
Robert Meachem - 25
Devery Henderson - 27
Heath Evans - 31
Jeremy Shockey - 29
David Thomas - 26
Jammal Brown - 28
Jermon Bushrod - 25
Zach Strief - 26
Jon Stinchomb - 30
Jahri Evans - 26
Jonathon Goodwin - 31
Jamar Nesbit - 33
Carl Nicks - 26
This is an ascending offense. Not a single starter is anywhere close declining due to age. In fact, the only players on the entire offense you might even worry about starting to slip physically would be Nesbit and maybe Heath Evans (in terms of losing some of his athleticism).
The wide receiver and running back groups in particular seem very young, but the offensive line too (comparative to many olines). Only 2 starters are 30 or 31 (Stinchomb and Goodwin), and what most fans would identify as our main two building blocks (Nicks and Evans), they're both 26.
Obviously we won't be able to keep everyone, but this is a really young offense when you get down too it. Brees in particular, just because of his nature and the type of QB he is, easily has another 6 or 7 years in him at a really, really high level. Jeff Garcia was, what, 37 when he played us in 2006?
Defense is a bit of a different story with players like Sharper, Fujita, even Shanle is 30 I think. But even then, the key players for the future for me is the secondary, which outside of Sharper is very young.
