2nd Round Pick? (1 Viewer)

All this Crable talk is making me giddy. :D

Some say team needs knocked Brady Quinn down to #22; others KNOW it was Shawn Crable. :hihi:

save this post and see if you have the courage to re post it next offseason. Vernon Davis is the prototype 21st century recieving TE.
Fred Davis has his blocking problems like Vernon, but his ability to get open is impressive.
BTW Vernon Davis scored a TD against us last year.

You're argument is not very good.

Of course Vernon has potential, so do alot of players. Vernon is your typical 21st century workout warrior. He is the Jonathan Sullivan of TEs. Did well to get himself drafted, but has no work ethic.

And scoring a TD against us? Do you remember who our Safties and LBs were?

terrible comparison...

He is working his way toward busthood at this point, but he's not there and he certainly has not earned the Sullivan label (which should be reserved for only the most rotten busts).

If he's there, the first guy I want in the 2nd round is J.Mayo. I think he's going to be a stud.
If not Mayo, then I'd like Cason.
Past that, Flowers wouldn't be a bad pick at that point either.

even if we pick rivers(looks like we are going db though) i would like to see adbi(sp?) from VT. he is slotted for around that time and would love to see some depth at olb especially if morgan hurts his head again

I hope the Saitns stay with their pattern and trade down in the 2nd to pick up an extra draft pick, like a 4th for example...

Take a DT/OLB in the 1st, WR/KR and/or corner/KR in the 2nd, corner/OLB in the 3rd and TE in the 4th.

The draft talk is getting old. Who knows what players will be off the board after 9 picks, never mind after 40 picks. I could name 15 guys I want on this team, but it seems we never pick the guys that the fans want anyways.

I was shocked to see Colston had knee surgery. Maybe his weight wasn't the only thing slowing him down at the start of the last season.

Colston had weight problems......I couldnt tell....the entire team was slow coming out of the gates last year, you cant blame it on one person.....I agree with you on the draft talk though...but what else is there to do, make another Reggie vs PT thread?

First round-Leodis McKelvin
Second Round-Jarod Mayo

or

First round-Sedrick Ellis
Second Round-Mayo or Wheeler

Think about it guys June first cuts is coming and someone is bound to get cut good that could possibly help the Saints..

Dude he hasn't done anything in two years. I get where you're coming from with his physical gifts and potential, but he's had those things for the last two seasons, hasn't he? I mean he hasn't even shown the potential to take over games or destroy teams like Reggie has, for instance.

I really like the option of Reggie Smith. I'm not sure he would fall that far though.

Positives: He is very quick and agile...He is versatile and can play both FS/CB...Has very good instincts...Can jump with the best of them...Can return kicks...Can blitz around the edge

Negatives: Waits for contact...Doesn't have the best hands...Sometimes out of position (but so can Champ)

I'd like to see any of these options...

1. First Round - Ellis Second Round - Mayo/Flowers/Porter

or

2. First Round - Rivers Second Round - Laws/Sims/Moore/Flowers/Porter

Yea, I'm with you CHI-TOWN, I like your list. :) I would add Adibi and Lofton to your 1 list and Patrick Lee to your 2 list.

Reggie Smith, Oklahoma, 6-1, 199, 2nd: Smith is a versatile underclassman with experience at corner and free safety.

He did not work out at the combine but appears to be one of those players whose functional speed is better than what a stopwatch says.

Smith has the coverage instincts to be a shutdown corner and the physicality and ball reaction to be a free safety, plus he is willing to smack anything that moves.

He started 36 games as a Sooner: 20 at strong safety, 16 at cornerback. He deflected 22 passes and intercepted eight others. He totaled 166 tackles and recovered three fumbles.

Draft check: Sizing up the defensive back crop - USATODAY.com

Analysis
Positives: Well-built athlete. ... Rare size for the position. ... Instinctive player. ... Lacks elite timed speed, but is rarely beaten deep due to his smooth hip turn and route-recognition skills. ... Competitive player who battles for the ball. ... Physical. ... Uses his hands well to re-route the receiver and disrupt the timing with the quarterback. ... Reads the action quickly and is quick to support the run. ... Explosive hitter. ... Versatile defender with experience at free safety. ... Talented return specialist who shows the ability to make the first defender miss and has the vision to run to daylight.

Negatives: Has to answer questions about his timed speed. ... Broken toe suffered before the Fiesta Bowl will have to get a clean bill of health at the Combine. ... Has been protected by the aggressive nature of Oklahoma's defense. Quarterbacks simply didn't have much time to challenge him deep while dealing with the Sooner pass rush.

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Reggie Smith

Another player to watch is Oklahoma's Reggie Smith is one of the most versatile and coachable players in this draft, according to several sources. At 6-foot-1, 200-pounds he has ideal size to make the switch, and he played strong safety in college for two seasons. He's not afraid to mix it up, but he can also cover. In his only season as a full-time corner, he allowed just 35 percent of the passes thrown his way to be completed in 2007. On top of that, he didn't allow a single touchdown. A player with Smith's size and experience, who can also cover and support the run is an ideal candidate to make the transition to safety.

Versatility is a big bonus for prospects

Reggie Smith, CB, Oklahoma, 6-1, 198, 4.57, 2: Smith looks like he has the ability to be one of the NFL's most cherished commodities: a physical, shutdown corner. The only thing lacking from his résumé is dazzling speed, but his tremendous coverage instincts, ball reaction and willingness to support the run should help him become an impact player.

CB, Reggie Smith (Jr.)
Draft Projection: 1st Round
Height: 6-0 | Weight: 196

Smith is an outstanding athlete who covers a lot of ground in the secondary. He's a versatile defender who can play corner or safety at the next level. He's an athletic centerfielder with tremendous ball skills. He displays great awareness in coverage and plays physically against bigger receivers. He defends the run very well and takes good angles in pursuit. He diagnoses the action instantly and possesses a good sense of timing. Smith is a top-20 selection in next April's draft if he decides to forego his senior season. His versatility and playmaking ability in the secondary is hard to find and are skills that teams crave.
