Some things in life, create the oxymoron that you don't know how good it would be to have something, until you realize that you need that thing that you don't have.. QBs can be like that.. you don't realize how good it can be to have a 4-0 QB till you realize some teams have winning QBs and some teams WISH they had one.

The Saints have a winner. The wins haven't been flashy. The Saints are not serving up 30-burgers every week. But the team has been growing and they have really be gelling around Teddy..

If Payton could have scripted a transition, it might not have been this perfect. Your Star QB goes down and we get a 4-0 win streak from the backup.. And the beauty of Teddy's game is also a joy for the Coach. He is called a 2-read QB, but Bridgewater also sticks with the play call. Why is that important? With Brees, Payton sends in a player grouping and calls a play. Brees sees a defensive weakness and, KILL KILL KILL, makes an audible to another play to take advantage of a coverage. Changing a play shows knowledge and moxie but it also calls for adjustments all over the field. Brees works these adjustments to perfection. So, after the audible is called, Brees seems look to his left and scan across the field to throw to the open WR or single coverage. But Brees is also scanning to his left and across the field to influence the defense. Teams and media think he is reading coverage across the field but his drill to make every throw is also practice on a pump fake that moves the DBs to open up the passes the QB really wants to make..

However, Bridgewater stays with the play and calls very few audibles. Many times the plays work and some plays don't work so good. At this point, Bridgewater is not trying to complete 24 of 27 passes, he wants to run and execute the play the way the play was practiced. Coach Payton sees the defense against his scripted play and how the defense is playing. Then the play happens and the play works or doesn't work. Okay not all plays work, but the coaches have seen is valuable in calling a game. The play causes the DC to show what he plans to do against that offensive alignment and, when they go back to that play, they know what to expect and where the weakness in the defense is. Payton seeing the defense and adding to the mental Rolodex for play calls, can only make him a better caller at the end of the game. Big advantage for a play caller.

Sticking with a play call work for other players. With a play call in the huddle, the OL and Backs go up to the line looking to make assignments and execute. Changing the play may change my assignment and change my plan for executing the play. Has anyone noticed how OG Peat's play has improved with this new QB under Center? I'm getting more confident that Peat could make the permanent move to LT. And, it seems, everyone on the OL is playing better. Teddy has to adjust to getting the ball out and taking fewer sacks, but this team is getting better.

It is hard to satisfy Coach Payton with a 4 or 6-yd running play but defensive coordinators notice. And they are picking the poison between Kamara or Murray out of the RB position or Thomas-Cook-Ginn passing attack. Teddy is getting them all involved. And all the weapons are seeing the endzone..

It's simple.. 4-0 QBs make their skill players happy.. their defense is happy because the offense stays on the field and scores.. and their coach is happy because the offense is executing. The fans are happy, too, because 4-0 could easily stretch to 10-0 like last season. And I can already see how the schedule could help that happen with injuries adding up and poor teams showing their weaknesses..

Bottom line.. the Saints 4-0 QB seems focused.. And Teddy has happy people all around him as he tries to take this team back to the Super Bowl..

GO Saints!!
