Things haven’t exactly gone according to the script for the New Orleans Saints. They’ve exited the first quarter of the 2020 season with a mediocre 2-2 record, having lost two very winnable games, with some of their highest-drafted players missing in action and too many breakout candidates waiting for their shot on the sidelines.
Sure, some players have risen to the occasion; wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith has been a reliable target, converting a first down on 11 of his 14 catches. Defensive end Trey Hendrickson has been the team’s most effective pass rusher (he’s the only player on the team with double-digit quarterback pressures).
But we’re going to look at some names we highlighted before the season as breakout candidates who haven’t quite met those expectations. If the Saints are going to improve and get back in the playoffs race, they need better production from players like these. ...
