Five more days or less until we learn the fate of Deuce. I'm shocked that he didn't restructure yet. Can we afford to pay both Deuce and Bush Top RB money, when PT should get the ball in week 1?

He wasn't running like Deuce when he went down early in the season, so it's hard to believe he will come back stronger. I want to keep him around, he's the heart of the team, but it's hard to justify his salary at this point.

What do we do?

Pay cut, but with incentives if he does good that way if he doesn't he wont get paid has much

I'll really hate it if Deuce isn't part of this team, but the NFL is a business first and foremost. Given his injuries, I'm afraid a lot of posters are too optimistic about his future, but I'd like to be proven wrong.

Staying

I think that Deuce is staying with us this year. I think we will draft a RB in the 3rd round- Possibly Rice, Forte, or Hart (sp? Michigan RB) and Stecker will be cut or traded before the season starts. Could also be Pierre that gets traded, he created a little bit of trade value for himself with the Chicago game last year.

Deuce has been the heart and soul of this team for years, and if he restructured his deal for less money, I think the saints would keep him. Unfortunately, my gut feeling is that this won't happen, and Deuce and the Saints will be parting ways. I hope i'm wrong.

Why trade thendest back on your team when the position is in a state of disarray?

Because he's 30 years old and has had two major reconstructive surgeries on his knees in the last 3 years.

I love Deuce, and he has been a New Orleans Saint through and through, but i just don't see him being a factor for us anymore.

i think this will be Deuces last year as a player unless he just has a great season - i dont see him going to another team unless that team has a real chance to win ala Dillon and the Pats.

his recent marriage will probably lead to family (if he doesnt have kids already) and with his business interests and knee issues i cant see him playing for a "rebuilding" team.

The injuries are a serious matter. An NFL team, no matter how loyal they are to a particular player, must cut the ties before it becomes a bigger problem. You have to do what's best for the team, not necessarily the player. That's the nature of the biz.

I'm really hoping he comes in healthy and ready to tote that rock, but his age and the seriousness of the injuries doesn't look good. I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish by delaying his bonus, but it seemed like the least the team could do after what DOOOOCE has done for the city and the team. But, eventually the loyalty will put you in a position that may become a glaring need that you can't recover from quickly.

I SO hope to continue screaming and hearing DOOOOOCE for quite some time in B&G.

I think he will stay! He isnt a silly man he knows he has to restructure his contract because knowhere else will happily hand over the Dollars to him will they? So in that case why leave?

you people are blinded by your love for a player to reality. he hasnt been the "heart and soul" of the team for atleast a couple years now. i think Brees took that. no paycut he is gone. he will have another setback in training camp anyways. i love him too but that is the truth.

Why Pierre Thomas wont be traded........

"The former Illini running back was not selected in the recent NFL draft, but the Saints signed him in part because he can return kicks as well as rush from the backfield. It also means that Thomas reunites with former Illini special teams coach Greg McMahon, who is a special teams assistant with the Saints.".......

"Laurence Maroney was informed by Illinois special teams coach Greg McMahon that Pierre Thomas was offerd the scholarship to Illinois and the school's scholarship offer to Maroney was no longer on the table.

Pierre Thomas Interview - Pre 2007 season
DI: Have you talked to Steve (Weatherford) or Saints assistant special teams coach Greg McMahon?
PT: Yeah, I called coach McMahon, and he was the one who put in a good word for me. He's the one who called me and told me, 'Hey, we really want you man, I've been telling these guys all about you.' He said he talked to (Sean Payton) and told him that this kid is amazing and a great guy, and he'll work his butt off for you.........

With that said, Pierre has close ties with saints special teams coach Greg McMahon. McMahon recruited him in college and was the voice of reason to pick him up for the saints.

And why trade someone with such a small contract?
