Brees is a righteous man, a good man, a soft spoken thinking mans man.
Brady is a bad boy, a previous party boy a woman’s man.
Those who ascribe to a more worldly view tend to sell the righteous man short and aspire to be like Brady... The “man’s man”... stronger, bigger will last longer they think.
They overlook how well Brees takes care of himself. He has been underestimated since High School and at every level; yet he is STILL underestimated. Will people ever learn? He can likely go another 3 years or so and be really really good!
Article notes the poor performance during the last 4 games of the regular season, but doesn't mention that Armstead, Bushrod and Warford were all basically being held together by duct tape at the time.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Drew is human and it seems inevitable. That said, I really think it's lazy to point to the end of last year as proof of this. The decline last year had everything to do with an oline that simply fell apart down the stretch.
But I keep coming back to the fact that when Drew regresses he's going to go from the greatest passer in history to simply a good QB. Let's say that Drew is 60% of the player he was last season, that's still a pretty darn good QB. That's still a QB we can win a Super Bowl with.
It would be one thing if Drew had a long injury history and was propped up by leg braces like Marino was late in his career, but he's stayed clean, knock on wood. And he's not like Manning who was playing with a neck that could no longer support his head. For his age Drew Brees is probably in the best shape of any QB in the league. He'll be able to roll out of bed and throw back shoulder passes when he's 60.
Right, it's not an either/or, all-or-nothing proposition. Just b/c he's not 2009 Brees does not mean he will turn into Heath Shuler this year, either. The 2015 Broncos won a Super Bowl even though Peyton Manning was so bad he got benched for a stretch for Brock Osweiler during the season. I do think our defense is going to have to raise their game a little this season for us to win the Super Bowl.
And yeah, if Brees keeps playing long enough, one of these years, this prediction will be accurate. Hopefully not this year.
