The Tampa Bay Buccaneers bungled a serious roster move, and the New Orleans Saints (and a host of other teams) stand to benefit from it. The Buccaneers cut defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on Monday, as first reported by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. 5. McCoy and Drew Brees are good friends
Brees has hosted McCoy at his home in San Diego for eight years during the offseason, with the two NFL superstars joining up to train with other players from across the league — guys like Darren Sproles, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Thomas. They’re close friends with a ton of respect for each other as professionals (McCoy described Brees as “superhuman”), and McCoy would be an easy fit in the Saints locker room because of it. There’s nobody who can sell McCoy on the idea of joining forces better than Brees.
