Wow, what a difference a day can make, huh? Yesterday everyone on here was so excited about getting Lance Briggs, and talking about our LB's being Dome Patrol part Deux. Briggs signs with Chicago again, and all of a sudden, everyone thinks we are garbage again!:dunno: I just don't understand everyone's logic. You can't sign every big name player that tests FA. It's just not possible. The fact that the Saints were going after the big names this year should make people happy, for it shows that this organization is headed in the right direction.

Yes it makes me mad:rant: that we couldn't sign Samulel or Briggs. Either one of those players is better than the ones we have right now, but for every Briggs or Samuel, there is always another pro bowler waiting in the draft. Lets wait until after the draft to throw our hopes out of the window. I think we'll be better than most of you assume (as of today) that we'll be.

The draft the current front office has gotten luckly one year in the draft. Yes I say luckly because they have produce one good draft. To think that the players we need will fall to us in the draft and they will make the right picks I don't think so.

Then you all can keep that " OH GOD, WE DIDN'T SIGN THE 3 BIGGEST NAMES IN FA, SO I'LL GO KILL MYSELF" attitude , but don't forget that we are 2 years removed from the NFCCG, in which most of the players from that game played for us last year. Yes, our defense was terrible last year, I understand that, but we just traded for one of the best, and possibly top 3, MLB in the league. Did I fail to mention that he is only 25 years old? Thats the leader of this defense that we've all been waiting for, and leader that this defense needs.

Like someone stated before, Briggs wasn't the second coming of Ricky Jackson. In actuality, he was a 3rd round draft pick. Talent comes from all rounds of the draft. Of all people, Saints fans should know this i.e. Marques Colston 7th RD, second to last pick out of Hofstra.

This draft is one of the most defensive heavy draft classes in a very long time. There will be 2 starters on defense coming from this draft.

that's the problem
Sooo, you're saying that the same players that got us to that game are now scrubs? Yes the production level has dropped off, but wait until the draft and FA is over to start loading the shotguns, and putting your toes on the trigger. FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, THE FA PERIOD ISN'T EVEN A WEEK OLD YET!

Actually if not for Vilma's injury, he would have been "the" biggest name out there in FA this year(Or right up there with Samuel & Briggs). He IS a huge signing for the Saints.

One player not going to make our defense better
Dumbest statement I've read all day. If you think Vilma isn't going to make an impact on this defense, you shouldn't watch any games this coming season, cause you don't deserve to do so.

I'm being positive about this offseason cause I think we will have a good/great draft. If we draft mostly offense, then yeas, we have no chance to do anything, but with the right decisions we can get 2 or 3 starters on defense.

Vilma was not a free agent this year. so the saints haven't sign anyone yet other then the great free agent from our team last year.

We don't even know if he will be ready to play
He said he was jogging right now, and will be 50/50 for minicamp, but 100% ready for training camp. So it sounds like he's gong to be ready to play.

i swear some of the expectations are really unrealistic here. JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE THE MONEY DOESN'T MEAN A PLAYER WILL SIGN WITH US. How many people you know that are just dying to move down to N.O.? Not many. I love the place. Most people born and raised here do, but most of the players we want aren't. There are 32 teams and about only 10 really good FA's this year. It wasn't very good odds for us from the start.

Exactly. The people that defend the front office obviously defend mediocrity because that is what the saints have been for 7 years under this regime.

Yep the 2006 season . . . pure mediocrity. No the people on the board that defend understand that you can't make a player sign with you, that you can't sign every big name player and expect to be successful (Redskins), that you can't trade away all of your draft picks and be successful (Redskins and Mike Ditka Saints), that you can't reach for players in the draft (Mike Ditka and Haslett Saints).

Are you serious???? Money Talks my fellow Who Dat. If Brees didn't see dollars he would have settled for less in Miami if that were the case. I talked to Faine in 2006 while I was bartending and asked him if he liked New Orleans better than Cleveland. He looked at me as if I were the dumbest person alive just for asking that. He said he LOVES New Orleans. Faine got paid stupid money and left. By the way how has Cleveland done in FA thus far??? Money Talks......
