A Grand Solar plan for the U.S. (1 Viewer)

just out of curiosity...the desert is well...the desert, nothing but rocks, snakes and scorpions, what would be the justification to prevent making the desert one big solar far?

The environmentalists want green technologies...where here's a prime example...they can't have it both ways.
Ever hear of the Desert Tortoise? Naturally it's a threatened species.

I always thought workplaces and businesses like malls could provide solar panel chargers for employees and customers who choose to drive electric vehicles. We have to start somewhere and every little bit helps. Throw in taxi companies, all types of delivery services ect. Then, give tax breaks to owners and makers of these vehicles. It can happen.
Have checked out the prices on those solar panels? There is a reason why you don't see them everywhere.

You should look into who fabricates solar panels and how they are.constructed before you think they are a legitimate power source.

When I see a solar panel producing plant that is powered by solar power, and isn''t some sort of heavily subsidized novelty, then I will start paying attention.

Solar panels are energy positive after only 1-3 years and have far less environmental impact than traditional energy sources. They are perfectly legitimate under the right circumstances.

I have been seeing alot of these alternative energy producers over the last several months which leads me to wonder why they are not hitting the market in some limited fashion?

In the videos it looks like they could be used now, so whats holding them back? I would think that as soon as these start hitting the market in even the smallest measure, the oil speculators will begin to make huge reductions on the price of oil.

OPEC would be wise to look at the oil they are sitting on as evironmental waste if alternative energy sources start to become mainstream.

Unfortunately the systems don't pay for themselves for over 10 years and then its time to replace them. Granted that does factor in the batteries as well in the cost, but the two go hand in hand for a household solution.

If they were more feasible, I'd have installed them already. I'd love nothing more than to be off the grid or feeding back into it so Entergy has to pay me. I just can't come up with 60K-80K to do it.

It does cost a heckuva lot of money, but if we are able to sell our surplus energy back to the grid, there is a very big chance that you can make good money.

Now that Germany has started their transition to more alternative energy sources, the plan is to allow the solar farms to sell their electricity to the people at a fixed rate. Whatever is left over, gets sold back to the grid. You make money both ways. In the end, the banks are happy to loan the money to those willing to build these solar farms because there is a lot of money for those that have these fams. It's a win/win for the bank and the farmer.

Its probably a good idea to get into the solar game on the stock market now, ahead of these changes to come.

Stock tip: Akeena Solar. AKNS.

Attractively priced right now under $6. The are the nation's leading manufacturer of solar kits for the home.http://www.akeena.net/cm/Home.html

The stock jumped to $16 back in early January when there was a little run on solar, so your money could double easily on another short term run - while at the same time, the long term outlook is good for solar.

That's just the one I know about. There are others. But not a bad thing to watch.

Yep, payback is longer in Louisiana thanks to our clouds. We don't have to use batteries thanks to net metering and panel installations should last much longer than 10 years. Solar power will be more attractive in Louisiana if some of the newer PV technology that offers 50% or greater cost reductions pans out.

I would not like to have the solar panels. Only because what about at night when there is no light. and someone broke into your house. You would have no light at all except for candils
other than that I say Lets bring on the solar power....

There is some reading for you right here that discusses how solar panels give a house power when there is no sun for the night. Basically the solar energy captured during the day is stored in batteries, so your ceiling fixtures more or less become a flashlight.

There's your science project for next year. You can buy a little solar kit from Radio Shack.

Anybody jump on this??

It was trading at $5.91 on March 11 when we had that discussion. It's at $7.41 now! That's like 25% in 2 weeks yo.
