After the big game against Philly, Smith struggled down the stretch. Kirkwood had his issues as well, but he made a lot of big plays for us late in the season.

Any thoughts?

Meh, Player development isn't linear.

They are both rookies and only flashed their true potential. They need to learn better technique. Otherwise... Kirkwood has a bigger frame and similar speed. They are both can blossom in to a solid erd and 4th tier receiver, but they have to get better in the mentally and intangible aspects. Honestly, split hairs when you come down to it. Kirkwood came out of nowhere more so as an unknown prospect where as by the time Philly came... SMITH had a healthy dose of film to break down. Wood began showing signs of slowing down wheh team started to respect him.

Can't rely on either of them outside of being wide open. They struggle to win battles and their route running has to improve. If they aren't wide open with a perfect pass... They aren't effective.

The difference between them is on par to a C and C-

I think both guys have a lot of potential. Receivers take a couple years to really get going. Mike Thomas is an exception to the rule, but even his third season blew away his second, which was better than his first. I still think we could benefit from a more shifty slot receiver, but, imo, as these guys develop, we are going to have some monsters giving defenses fits downfield.

There different kind of WRs. Kirkwood more of a z type who also can run. Has some short area seperarion skills with size. Smith is a momentum runner but he slow off the line. But he does have some sneaky acceleration after ten yards. Also long arms and aolid physicality. Saying all that Smith skill set fits more in a flanker role. As with kirkwood you can do a little bit of everything. Saying kirkwood more valuable going forward not a stretch at all

They were rookies and Kirkwood undrafted at that.
So there is room for improvement but go easy on then

Route running Technique, Hip fluidity in routes, hand usage at the line.
and Reading Man/Zone, and adjusting routes accordingly.

Is what those two need to work on this off-season to be more reliable in 2019.

Exactly, they are completely different and to compare them against each other is unfair to them.

Agree or disagree..if a WR struggles with Drew at the helm..you ain't that good.

Completely disagree at the stage of development they are at. Bree’s needs to trust a WR will be exactly at the right spot at exactly the right time. If he doesn’t have that connection with a WR, they won’t be getting the ball. These two, if they want to be successful, and they both can, is they need to work on route running, timing and get a comfort level with Brees. If that happens, then they will shine. If not, they will be nothing but some of the other WRs that appear and leave.

They both have the physical skills. The one that masters Payton’s complex offense quicker will be the better player. Both seemed confused at times lining up which then led to tentativeness in their route running.

Neither are that great. I still have hope that we can get some consistent production out of TQS.
