The New Orleans Saints drafted Marcus Davenport to give the pass rush a shot in the arm, but don’t be surprised when Alex Okafor contributes more in 2018. Okafor won the starting job opposite Cameron Jordan last season and played out of his mind, only to see his career year cut short by an Achilles tear.

That’s usually a debilitating injury for athletes, taking a lot of time and patience to see them return to form. Okafor has flipped that narrative on its head by returning to the starting lineup in Saints training camp without missing a beat.

Okafor is proving just as effective post-injury as he was before it, flashing off the line and disrupting plays in the backfield at right defensive end. Reports from media observance at practice seem to have him bagging another sack every day he suits up. He’s given the offensive line trouble in run defense and frequently forced Drew Brees and the other Saints quarterbacks off their spots with pressure off their blindside. ...
