Hmmmm.....

Verner used to be a baller....Used to be. I think Verner needs to go to a team that plays primarily zone so he can react to the QB, which is/was what he was best at. When he was singled up, even on the Titans, he had issues in coverage. But it didnt show up as much, cause he had Michael Griffin helping over the top. He was miscast, over matched in that new role, and got totally exposed in Tampa. He's not a good fit for what we do on D. I'd pass.

Vernon Hargreaves must be the real deal. Made the more expensive vet expendable.

They likely drafted Hargreaves because the return on Verner was minimal. Not to mention he was in a cover 2 zone scheme under Lovie Smith previously and still didn't perform well. Just hasn't been very good since he left Tennessee

Bucs released CB Alterraun Verner.

The no-brainer move creates $6.5 million in cap space, and leaves behind no dead money. Signed to a four-year, $25.5 million contract in March 2014, Verner was a comprehensive bust in Tampa, losing his starting job in 2015. Despite good health, he made just nine combined starts over the past two years, playing 838 replacement-level snaps. The ex-Titan turned 28 in January. He'll search for fourth corner work.

I mean I guess anything is possible, but "no-brainer move" isn't typically you want to see.

I read that DA likes to play a lot of zone coverage so wouldn't he be a fit?

We do play a lot of different coverages, & different fronts. But the thing about DA, is that his D is based on bringing pressure. DA's defense is basically a multi-front, 3 Safety, version of Gregg Williams D(philosophy-wise). We blitz our DBs a grip, & losing the extra guy in coverage always leaves the back end singled up on islands. If the pressure works, then the coverage holds up in favor of our DBs. If the pressure fails(like we've seen), then our DBs are totally on their own. You dont want to put a guy like Verner in that spot. We saw Ken Crawley have a rough go in that role, & Browner is still on fire right now, from being burned so much the year before. We need pressure players up front & DBs who can hold up in man coverage.
