Bill Russell's No. 6 jersey to be retired throughout NBA

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) announced today that they will honor the life and legacy of 11-time NBA champion and civil rights pioneer Bill Russell by permanently retiring his uniform number, 6, throughout the league.

I heard this on the way home from work tonight. This is great news. He deserves this rare honor.


#42 has been retired by MLB in honor of Jackie Robinson. #99 has been retired by MLH in honor in honor of Wayne Gretzky. There is no honor greater than this.
