I've watched the replay twice now.

Positives

CJ Spiller looks like he's got that extra gear back. On more than one occasion the defender had angles on him but he kicked it in and blew by them.

Tommy Lewis - this guy wants it. If it's between him and Coleman give me Lewis. His stature is a concern but the guy catches most things thrown his way and fights. It's called heart and he has it. Coleman not so much.

Defense overall - We have upgraded. No doubt. It's refreshing to see we actually may have a legitimate defense this year.

Nick Fairley - If he plays like this and we can get enough snaps until Rankins returns, I like what we have on the D-line.

Jim Laurinaitis - the guy plays like a vet. You can see him barking signals on the field. He gives us what was missing last year.

Breaux = Stud.

Mixed reivews

PJ Williams- the interception was outstanding. The getting beat for the TD no so good. Teams will pick on him often. He will win some (more as the season goes on) and lose some.

Harris and Crawley - I like both of these guys. They stick their nose in it. It will take time to develop but both could have a future with us.

Questionable

Murphy - I think SP comments spoke volumes. Murphy will be replaced by Lasco.

Oline- Armstead, Unger then what. Enough has been said on this board. By far the most troubling part of our team.

Overall - it's certainly looks like we have started to move in the right direction on defense. I'm confident that SP and ML will make something happen on the O-line. I do not believe this is the Oline that will start the season. Its a mixed bag overall but I have faith that we will make moves to get better before the season starts.

A quick summary of the offense...

I will say this about PJ's TD that he gave up. He was in good position the QB threw an excellent pass, and I wonder if he could have made a play on the ball even if he had seen it coming.

I love Tommy Lee Lewis. He is dynamite.

Brandon Coleman still plays like he's 5'6" 165 lbs. He's a talent that might not make this squad.

Spiller could be our best RB. Wow that guy has "it."

Cadet is still steady.

Murphy won't make this team. Payton's press conference almost confirmed that.

Eric Harris could be a starter. Very impressive on special teams.

Good summation, CC. And I always think highly of JiveSaint's opinions. Quality thread all around.

As far as the OL, I saw some things I liked from the 2nd-3rd string guards. Turner played well. Fullington (who?) made a great block on an off tackle run, getting up-field quickly, and held his own in pass protection later in the game. He's small, but can move.

Lelito has no better pedigree then any of the guys behind him. I think it's time to close the book on him and let some of these other guys get a chance with the starters.

Bad OL play in the preseason is not a death sentence. We were all laughing at how bad the Panther's OL was starting last year. The Broncos had serious OL issues early on. Issues can be fixed, players improve, and schemes can overcome weaknesses as you get into the season.

These poor guys. I see many easy cuts for the roster. I was really, really hoping for some of them. But missed assignments, dropped passes -- doesn't bode to well.

Interesting is the only issue with this team is the offensive line. It is unfortunate to see the 3rd stringer playing better, but granted it was against their 3rd stringer too. There were some disappointment, ala Brandon Coleman and Marcus Murphy. But we played well enough to win the game at the end. So if we can get this line fixed to be at least decent, then we should be fine.

I'm looking forward to Friday night for this defense . A true test at home. Let's start defending the dome now. We need a win even though it's preseason.

They say that a great throw beats great coverage. I think that was the case there. Perhaps PJ could have had a better sense of where he was on the field, but that was a great throw by Osweiler. Based on what we've seen so far, I feel pretty confident with a healthy PJ Williams.

Thanks CC for a well thought out and even handed summary of the game.

Question for a few of you here : I haven't been paying enough attention to the second string O-Line (prolly from hitting the second string beer around that time) but I keep hearing a few of you touting Landon Turner. Where do you see him if he were with the starters? RG or LG? And do you think that playing next to Unger and Strief/Armstead would lessen his pass blocking deficencies to the point that he would be an effective starter?

Just wondering if you see him as a potential solid starter, or backup.

I agree with you.

Cooks, Snead IV, Michael Thomas, Tommy-Lee Lewis. To me these are 4 locks at WR. Is Coleman better than RJ Harris ? That is my question. Harris just makes catches and maintains possession. Who else ?

Thanks Crosswatt. And thank you again for doing the Official Mock Draft every year. I really enjoy it. Plus it helps folks get to know each other.

PS- OG Connor McGovern looks like a starter for Denver. I wanted him and we missed on fifth rounder that's going to start his rookie year. That was a mistake by our front office.
