Any teams looking for a TE? (merged Zach Hilton released threads) (1 Viewer)

I'm wondering why he wouldn't be attractive to the Saints. I know he was cut but I don't think they cut him because they thought he couldn't play. It was his blocking. Okay, but now Conwell's out so why not pick up a guy who's familiar witht he system and happens to still have an apt. in town?

Tank , he knows the system we use and we are pretty thin, do you know any inside info on what kept him from making the team and how he is working to improve that skill? I would love to know why we don't spread him wide at the goal line and use him as a red zone specialist, we really struggle in that area and use stupid trick plays to avoid it.

Junkie.... I wish I could tell you, I really don't know.... The new staff really had no interest in him from the beginning, meaning last spring when they first arrived... why I'm not sure.... if it was just blocking (and imho zach does some blocks competently) that was something they could have worked on in training camp.... but their minds were made up and he never got much of a real opportunity ..... they knew they wanted Ernie and Campbell... Zach was a gonner after the first week...

Over the same amount of games that Zach started for us last year he caught more than twice as many passes as ALL OF OUR TE'S COMBINED have this season but many of us would like to give Todd Bouman and Aaron Brooks the credit. Drew Brees just isn't good at finding the TE. He is a better receiving TE than anyone we have on the roster.

I think our TE's are more involved in the blocking game this year. How do you think we are keeping Breese off the carpet?. Breese would be throwing more to the TE's if they were out in the flat. Its called priorites

Who is Breese?

I know the TE's have been part of the blocking scheme but they do still attempt to catch passes. Hell, they have had enough passes thrown there way so far this season to drop 3 TD passes (all very catchable) and a crutical 3rd down, this is just off the top of my head. I'm sure they have dropped more which means they are dropping nearly half the balls thrown there way. Zach is not a great blocker but he is good enough to chip DE's and help on double teams. None of our TE's are good enough blockers to consistently man up on DE's.

Tank Send him to Charlotte to work out for the Panthers. All of our TE suck.

3 TD's? Conwell dropped one. What other TE's have dropped TDs?

I don't think any TE even has a drop except Conwell.

Campbell dropped two TD passes against the Ravens 6 days ago. If I am not mistaken Lawrie had a drop too but it was for a short gain not a TD.

bah I didn't get to see the ravens game (first game this year I couldn't watch)...my bad.

offense's gameplan

When will people realize that Payton's offense doesn't revolve around the TE. So many people want to have this all pro pass catching TE, most of which can't block worth a lick. Here's the deal -- we started the season with an Oline that has not only never played together, but most were starting a new postion for the first time. So Payton went with football inteligence and ability to block over athleticism. Conwell is one of the smartest players on the field. Campbell, Euhus can block well. The TE on our team is not a second option, not a third option, but the last option when throwing the ball. Brees is a good enough quarterback to find the open man rather than forcing it, so our TEs will get a few catches a game, but thats it. Get over it with this we need a TE who can catch BS.

Tank, thanks for coming by. Sorry to hear that Zach was cut, but I am sure he will be back in the NFL whether it is this season or next. Good luck!
