Big fan of this series due to the heavily modded content that often follows these with games. Some of the mod's are better than the original games IMO. Not sure if there will be a console release?

I'd love to play, except I am cursed with Apple. I can't see any chance of a console release, sadly. Whichever next gen console it hypothetically came out on would see my day-one purchase, though.

The total war series is made great due to the rabid fan modders out there. Since your already a fan I'm sure your aware of Darth Mods for most of the TW games. His shogun 2 and napoleon mods turn those titles on their heads. I rarely buy the TW games when they first come out b/c of price. Rome II is listed at $60 for a pre-order but considering the success of the previous titles I'm sure it will be an easy choice. The thing that makes the purchase easier is that you know if the game isn't "right" the modder will make it right for free.

I absolutely love them, but haven't had a computer good enough to play them since the original Rome: Total War.
