I was going nuts in the second quarter when the 49ers called their timeout when the Saints rushed up to the line on a 4th and one. The niners had already used 2 timeouts via the usual method and lost a timeout for losing a challenge, hence they had none left. Everyone around me at the game had not even thought about it until I started screaming.

So, did the TV announcer crew pick up on it?

No, Bill Maas did not pick up on it. He is clueless.

You must not have heard that one of them was not a charged timeout. So while your screaming is appreciated, it was unjustified. :)

Oh, and by the way, the screaming will probably be most appreciated by my students tomorrow, when I begin to try to explain buccal cavity breathing among plethodonts. It's a little difficult teaching Zoology without a voice!

Which one was not charged? They were both clearly called out by the referee on the field.

Yes, they were both clearly charged on the field...however, Mike Carey came back and said during the break that it was not a charged timeout. I can't remember specifically which one it was.

The first time out was not charged because the play clock was not reset to 25 seconds. Carey came out on the field after the break in action and explained that the 49ers were not charged with a time out.
