I am an avid hater of preseason evaluation. I'm not just saying this as a blind lover of New Orleans football. When the defense showed well against NE, I wanted us fans to pump the breaks, because their WR corps was a bunch of strays. That said, judging our team and being negative towards the season after that showing isn't fair to us. The defense played very well IMO. They came out guns blazing and shut HOU's offense down before the Murphy muff. Houston followed it up with a "once in a blue moon" perfect pass from Osweiler. The offensive line was bad, yes, but Armstead is the anchor. He was recently rated as the #2 overall player on the entire roster. When he's in, the line is completely reshuffled and while New Orleans may not have a great OL this year, Saturday's showing is not a representation of what's to come on Sundays. Not only will Brees have more time, Cooks/Snead will be on the field. Snead's strength is getting open in a hurry and giving Drew a target quick. Cooks draw the attention of multiple defenders.
Then there's the turnovers, which definitely need to be emphasized. I'm sure after the last two weeks, there will be hell to pay for what we've seen there.
I just see a lot of overnegativity concerning that Houston game, in the same way there was overpositivity after the NE game. We have not seen what this team is capable up, in the same breath, other teams are going to be better as well. I'm excited for this season, and until the bad comes, we can still think positively.
