Anyone heard of the Aikman Efficiency Rating? (1 Viewer)

I like it. Would like to see the complete formula and of course it is not perfect. But I like it.

aikman gets people to do this for him. he's a puddin' head now. he thrashed the saints all game last week but we're ranked at the top now? it just doesn't add up.

I really like this, but it needs to be renamed to something more geeky than the Aikman rating.

Look at where Arizona was last year too... 20th!

Interesting, I read this thread this morning: http://saintsreport.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123498&highlight=aikman and got the impression that he does not do his homework regarding personnel.

That is a classic example of fans hating any national broadcaster, because they do not love their team as much as the fans do. We focus on the Saints, a commentator like Aikman focuses on all thirty-two. Look at his comments referenced in that thread. He said nothing wrong. Our Oline is great for what the coaches ask them to do, but pale in comparison to many other lines around the league. That is not a slight against them, just an observation. We really only have three new starters on defense. Until we hold an opposing team under twenty points, you cannot expect anyone except us hardcore fans to really dish out the praise for our improved defense.

I have seen this before and it is the best formula out there.

It makes sense of a lot of things, using stats in a most sensible manner.

I started following Troy Aikman on twitter for some unknown reason and he posted his Aikman Efficiency Ratings so I took a gander:

I like where he has the Saints, especially on defense so I searched to find out how these numbers are broken down and the only place I could find the breakdown was on a 49er forum, strangely enough. Here is the breakdown:

The rankings if valid, show that the Saints have a top ranked Offense paired with a top ranked Defense with regard to our AER.

How the hell are the Eagles ranked 8th in the defensive category after last week's thrashing?

Did you miss the way they absolutely dominated Carolina? They were likely #1 before playing us.

Nice. Troy never seemed smart enough to do all that, to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if it came out that he just paid some analyst or statistician to come up with a ranking system that made him look smart. If he did come up with that all by himself, he needs to step it up in the booth then, as more times than not, he comes across as a borderline moron.

Other way around I would guess. Some guys came up with this and then paid Aikman some $$$ to attach his name to it.

"The Aikman Efficiency Rating is determined by a handful of random 'facts' taken from NFL.com that Troy passes of as his own.

These numbers are then written down on little bits of Jerry Jones' desk stationary, thrown into a hat and drawn out individually by a blindfolded Joe Buck, who is required to be wearing a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader uniform. The Troy creates a matrix that proves whichever team is currently rated best could never hold a candle to the Dallas teams of the 1990s."
