I went out by lacombe.

A friend of mine has a drone and he runs it over the marsh and he can see the fish. It's incredible and extremely helpful when your're fishing from a primitive platform like a kayak. Little wasted time.

We found a pocket of redfish and caught a few.

We're going to be taking the rig out to orange beach in may to see what we can find. I expect cobia fishing to be a lot more productive..

I'm psyched

I'm planning on heading to Grand Isle this Sunday. It'll be my first real trip in the boat. Any tips for a first time trip? I don't want to under-prepare. But at the same time, I don't want to over think everything. I'd like to leave room for experience to color my future trips.

How'd it do?

And can I ask how much you paid for it?

It did great! I went to academy the day before and ran into a cousin who lives in Pointe a la Hache. I told him my plans and he convinced me to come down to plaquemines and try out a few more protected marshes he knew. The water turned out to be very shallow and grassy, so my propeller was a bit of a chore. But it was a great time to get a feel for the boat. The best part was that the trip was only 40 minutes from the house. Ill definitely go back that way.

I also went last Saturday to Bayou St John. I can't tell you how cool it is to reel in a bass within eyesight of the superdome. The lightning storm forced us out of the water, but not before catching a decent bass and getting several hits. I think the general size of the bass was small so I was having trouble hooking up. But the proof of concept is there for a fun time within 10 minutes of the house.

All in all I absolutely love the boat, especially since I had a little bit of a routine worked out for this last trip. Trolling the banks by pedal and rudder is simply awesome. My friends who were in canoes quickly grew irritated with watching the ease with which I was fishing, not having to paddle.

Oh, the msrp is 2400. I got 13% off during Massey's sale.

And here's a pic of the rig putting in. I'm losing the cooler as it is too large and acts as a sail.

Very cool.

I've been researching this thing all evening. Your info is very helpful.

I have always wanted the hobie but it's so expensive. The Ocean that I have is too big and hard to maneuver. I went to the Native website and watched video's. Some compared the native to the hobie and it's not even close. The Native outperforms in every way.

The Native is a bit pricey too but it's got more functionality with the reverse ability and after years of using a paddle, I would really appreciate the forward/reverse ability. I am in shallow water a lot so I wonder about the draw but I could still paddle if needed since the outdrive is so easy to pull in.

You've convinced me. I'm going to sell my Ocean, save my $$$ and get a Native.

I think the hobie is better in grassy or shallow water. But the native still paddles well. And the first time you give a quick pedal in reverse to hold your spot to make that cast, you'll be happy you got the native. The other thing is stability vs length. I needed a short boat. Yet at 10ft this boat is perfectly fine to stand in.

I'm very happy with the purchase and don't think I'd go for a Hobie even if they were the same price.

I am kinda turned off that they are increasing the price for the second straight year another $150.

At this point, a kayak being $3400 is becoming unappealing.

I didn't catch it in a kayak but I thought I'd share here anyway. I caught this chunk early this morning south of bayou black in Terrebonne.

Saw this in the gif thread. I think it's a prototype of the new Hobie drive.

I am selling for a buddy a Hobie Outback in the color red. I self financed it for him and he is being laid off Friday so he will no longer be able to pay for it. It is in good condition with normal southern Louisiana oyster rash on the bottom. Includes the upgraded sail rudder, rubber mesh, and hatch liner. If anyone is interested, I can meet you at Hwy 90. Asking $1800 with everything.

Yea, should be sold this weekend. Have a couple of offers. Waiting on a guy to get back from his fishing trip this weekend.

It's a relief. Not buying anything like this for anyone again Lol.
