Haven't read the book but I know some of the Persia family and I've heard that the book goes into some detail on that relationship.

Anyone ever wonder how Tom Benson, poor guy from the 9th ward, got into the car business?

Anyone remember this old commercial?

The Persia family had a chain of dealerships and Benson worked for them as a General Manager.

Tom Benson has some bodies in his wake.

I have not read the book, but look forward to reading it.

In his climb in the automobile business, Benson supposedly had sharp elbows. And I firmly believe that but for Katrina, Benson intended to move the team to San Antonio. His relationship with Blanco was exceedingly poor, the negotiations for a new stadium had been so unproductive that Benson ended negotiations, and Benson's San Antonio friends had his ear (ironically, some of those have opposed him in the recent litigation over the trusts) and were urging him to move. And after Katrina, Benson wanted to move, but the NFL, whether out of a sense of fairness or public relations, said no.

But life is fortunately about second and third and fourth chances. Again, I have not read the book, and I at times in the past have been very critical of Benson. But let's judge him on the entirety of his life.

The way I see it, Benson is a great American success story. He is hard working, smart, tough, and never gives up. He has the mentality of a good football player.

I think the decline in the team could possibly be a result of his decline in health. We'll know more by the end of the 2017 season.

Benson is indeed a smart and shrewd businessman. He knew what he wanted and was determined to get it. He did not get where he is without some folks getting taken out though. He has some enemies out there but he's also a hero to many. That is oftentimes the reality in the commercial world.

I agree with you that his current health status is directly related to what we see on the field. Leadership and the decisions being made, or not made, all trickle down.

I did not.

But I did read Rita Benson's new book...."Mine, mine, mine!"

Powerful stuff.
I'm sure this has been posted around here about Rita before, but it's good stuff:

You can joke about Jones, but he was the one that encouraged Payton to come here after Katrina.
I wasn't really joking about him. I really do believe he is the main reason the Saints are still in New Orleans. He didn't want a third Texas team.
