apparantly we can't pass it deep (1 Viewer)

Not wise to hold on to the ball too long when you are up against blitz heavy teams. Besides, when you have such a nice lead, why throw deep? Pound it with the run game and short yardage passes (which are basically runs anyway). Another thing, isn't the West (Gulf) Coast offense predicated on short passes?

He really is off on that one, heck we had a deep one against the Jets that was just a minor misjudgement by Meachem, if he runs through instead of thinking he had to wait on the ball it's probably a touchdown. We haven't called the deep ball the last 2 weeks because we haven't needed it. When the defense is destroying the other team's offense you tend to play a little more conservatively.
On Meachem...that and he one hand tied behind his back by the defender

Last year we lead the league in 20+ yard throws with 66 (11 ahead of the second place team) and we were tied for first in the league in 40+ yard throws with 16. Drew Brees is consistently at the top of the league in down field completion percentage.

This is the same offense from a year ago (except healthier).

I usually give NFL commentary some slack because I know that they have to find something to write about. But, man, what a supremely stupid thing to write.

I am trying to find these stats.

What's your source?

Interesting take by Prisco, but it's a short sighted evaluation.

There's no question that Revis shut down Colston (Brees threw him 6 passes and only 2 were completed). Meachem was thrown to 3 times and caught 1 and Devery was targeted 5 times and had three catches. The Saints had only two passes that went for 20 yards or better (a 38 toss to Pierre that was mostly YAC) and a 20 yard catch by Shockey. But not to worry....

The missing "X" factor is Lance Moore. Lance finally made it on the field in a limited role Sunday and caught the only ball thrown to him; a 1 yard pass where Moore came up short on 3rd and 2 in the 4th quarter.

Once Lance returns to the field full speed, Brees will have a legitimate #1(a) receiver alongside Colston. Meachem has yet to raise his status as a solid #2 and Devery has always made his mark as a deep threat rather than #2 type receiver. Moore's full time presence will enhance Meachem and Henderson's roles in the passing attack.

Stay patient Prisco! After Lance returns full speed following the bye week I doubt any defense will be able to shut down the Saints' passing game.

Is this his first year watching the NFL? What a ******r :angryrazz:

This is the same guy who said Peyton was not giving enough credit to Williams, right?

I think the guy is just lazy -- he is supposed to come up with colorful insights but rather than do real research and bring something of value he just makes crap up.

thats like saying the Vikings cant run or the thing that will keep the Ravens out of the super bowl is there short yardage defense.
it amazes me that these "reporters" are outraged by the amount of bloggers at press days. We certainly cant depend on mainstream sports journalism to tell us anything relevant much less true.

He hasn't watched all 4 Saints games. Including the storied 2006 season, teams that used to beat us up and beat us in the score, real physical defenses that could pressure Brees up the middle, are now losing to us - and with our 3rd string LT playing. SP is taking what the defenses are giving him. Devery still flies as does Meach. Let defenses stack 8 in the box to stop our running attack and watch the bombs fly. Prisco must be bored.

we aren't completing very many deep passes the pass two weeks because of how many backs the bills and jets were dropping.

that is why we are running so well.

if teams start to blitz again, he will really see "bombs away":hihi:
