I have a 50mm prime too. Prime was the only way I could get to an aperture that wide and justify the cost for now. Love that lens though; it seems like you learn a lot when you have to move your position instead of moving a zoom ring. Great pic!
Gonna try to join in the thread more this month. I just ordered a Tamron 18-200. I know I won't be able to get to 200 really but I was tired of missing shots because I had to wrong lens on.
That "Nifty 50" is a great lens... My wife used it until I bought her that 2.8 24-70 a while back and that's all she uses now... She does use the 50 every now and then...

Orange Pansy 31 images shot with Canon 50D and MP-E 65mm at 2x using 0.26mm steps with a Cognisys StackShot and stacked in Zerene Stacker. Lit with MT-24EX @ 1/16 with diffusion gels.
Hopefully I'll have some wildlife shots to add to this or next month's thread once my new little lens arrives.
