Are there any overrated Saints? (1 Viewer)

Overrated by whom? Us or the national media/history and or other fans? Asking legit Q as will impact my response.

From the OP: "That got me wondering if there are any Saints players who are given more than their due nationally?"

Didn’t see that part, ty.
Lattimore.
Archie.
Marcus Williams.
All I can think of that are easy for me.

Cam Jordan.

I do not understand this. Cam is very likely the #1 4-3 DE in the league. The best all-around DE. He's not a pass rush specialist. He's a run-stuffing, edge setting, pass rusher, who's had 13, 12, and 15.5 sacks in the past 3 seasons. On top of this, he's constantly being held, and faces double teams a high percentage of his snaps. He can also play all over the line and have success wherever he lines up.

Please explain how he's overrated...

Lattimore shadowed #1 WRs and had a lot of success. Not many games where anyone got the best of him. Even Gilmore, who's being compared to all time greats, got lit up by DeVante Parker. It happens to all of them. But to say Ramsey was better than Lattimore, to me, is ridiculous.
The problem I have with this list is a lot of these players don’t face the competition that lattimore faces. Facing Julio and mike Evans twice a season is hard enough. Lattimore his rookie season was arguably the best cornerback in the NFL and he can’t have that type of season every year but that’s doesn’t mean he isn’t at the top of his position either. For what he is asked to do he is easily top 5 IMO.

If I'm being unbiased, I'd have to say he's definitely top 10. Top 5 is up for debate. What's scary is Jenkins also looks like a top 10 CB.

Garrett Hartley.

Made one of the biggest kicks in Saints history, had a great Super Bowl, but then slowly crapped out. Was given a huge leash because of 2009.

Love the guy but we over rated him after 09.

Cam is the best player we’ve had on defense in the past 15 years plus- to say he’s overrated is redonkulous, ridiculous, and an overall travesty of justice and common sense. A traversham.

The thread title asks for players, but I'm going to say Dome Field Advantage has become overrated.

Part of the reason is actually a very good thing.....and that's the fact that they've gotten a lot better and more consistent on the road over the last 3 years.

But the entire spooky mystique of "ooooh you don't want to play the Saints in the Superdome" that still lingers seems to be based more on past reputation than anything. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather any of their playoff runs go through the Superdome than having to compete outside in the current temps......but the last two years have proven that the Dome is no longer an automatic golden ticket to the next playoff round, which it had previously been since 2006.

Byrd, was expecting him to be a game changer when he signed, which in all fairness he was, sadly it was for the worst

I don't think he really counts as overrated in a Saints uniform. He was other non-existent or an underachiever for his Saints tenure.

It's not like the media was still calling him a great safety during that stretch, which is what would have made him overrated.

Lattimore
Peat
Both have been liabilities the last two seasons
Lattimore had a great rookie season and has been below average since. Peat is a failed tackle that hasn’t transitioned to guard very well.

The aforementioned Reggie and Graham are probably the top two in recent history.

I always thought Charles Grant was overrated. He had a couple of good seasons early on, then basically coasted for the rest of his career. After his first couple of years where he was very good, he morphed into a decent run stuffer and a very below-average pass rusher. There was always debate between whether he or Will Smith was better, which to me was always an absurd debate.

I remember when Smith first came along we saw glimpses of how destructive he could be. Then once he became a starter I realized how much better he was than Grant.
