Are we at SR Responsible for the Saints Drafting Gallette? (1 Viewer)

To the extent that coaches "hear" what some fans say, and talk about....I have no doubt that coaches read some of this stuff, even for amusement purposes. But then, maybe, if they like the videos posted on this site they might ask their scouts opinion for a player or 2.

I would think that maybe a player or 2 did get invited just to see if that player has something to offer.....and if they offered a contract to such a player, then maybe the initial push to sign that player started here on this board.

But that is far from deciding on such a player solely based on the talk on this board. That's never the case.

However, there is a strong indication that maybe some of the UDFAs ending up on the team might have had some favorable discussions on this board. And I put all the players drafted from rd 4 down (especially on D)......our UDFAs are just better. Is that an aberration?.....or maybe some coaches and scouts did indeed saw some diamond on the rough, whose talk might have started by the fans.....? who knows?

I venture to say...coach Sean Payton probably was a regular on this board during his suspension......maybe he saw the exact same thing we fans have seen with Spags.....many here on this board called on Spags being fired as the DC.....well, Sean Payton's first move was canning his DC. I'm not saying that he wouldn't have done the exact same thing on his own......but if he read all the Saints fans agony on Spags, his decision to take a different direction was probably influenced to a small degree by the fans.....

Oh Swimmer. As soon as I saw the thread title I knew you were the OP.

But no, we were not. Football organizations do more due diligence than we fans ever could.

Seriously. There were a couple of SR members who saw Junior in college and started a PR and video campaign. The SR Board members seemed like they couldn't get enough.

Did these early SR-discovery members make the front office take notice and grab him as an UDFA?
Yes it was all a part a herculean undertaking devised by the "Jackdeisel gang" of 2010 and their special pull within the organization.

Coincidentally, I have it on good authority that this shadowy and unscrupulous cabal is currently plotting a board-wide coup d'etat to run the saints organization from a remote distance right here from the the SSF. :freaked: If only there were a few posters here brave and paranoid enough to help me foil their evil machinations.:( Then we could show them that only rich people who have never played pro football like Tom Benson, Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder are qualified and intelligent enough to have an opinion on the operations of a pro ball club. :(:(:(:(

I mean, no, the FO does not make decisions based on this or any other site. (Though I hope that if they do, they pay more attention to us than to the comments section of the T-P.) However, there are a limited number of scouts, who are very well trained and well paid. And there are millions of fans, practically none of whom know a thing about talent evaluation. Yet at the same time, some of those fans are also fans of obscure college programs that might have hidden talent. Some have way too much time on their hands. Some occasionally might pick up on something useful. If you want to be a successful football team, I suspect you'll take any insight you can get, no matter where it comes from. And I wouldn't be surprised at all if a scout had perused the board, seen a video posted about a specific college player, and thought, "Ah, I heard something about this guy, but maybe now I want to read up on him and watch some tape."

So, no, I don't think it influences a decision to sign anyone. But to take a look at a prospect, to bring a guy in for a workout... I think they'd be silly not to use whatever tools are available to them, including the fans.

We have professional coaches and scouts who read and some post on the Board. We don't have enough scouts to cover every single player at every single school mini college in the country. Do you think it's not possible they saw the vid posted here and that may have caught their attention.

No chance at all.

In the case of small school players like Galette they are usually turned onto NFL teams by their college coaches who have contacts with NFL coaches and scouts.

This time of the year when there isn't any scouting for the college scouts to do, they will use this time to make contacts with smaller programs like DivII and NAIA programs via phone calls, email and even mailing business cards.

This way if a coach has a player he can contact a scout and let them know he has a player they might be interested in. This also benefits these smaller schools as they can use the success of a former player who made it to the NFL when recruiting kids to play there.

Frankly, in the era of the Internet, business and teams actively use niche boards to find hard to get product and services. 5 years ago, I worked at a company that did $112 billion annually. Dedicated specialists were assigned to monitor some off the wall boards to find specific leads. This included everything from new crude sources, to commodity trading tips (literally $3 billion to $5 billion every day), to recruiting top talent in specialized positions and on.....

50% of what we researched and read was absurdity, 30% insanity which became fodder for laughs was emailed around the departments, 19.5% interesting stuff and maybe .05% gems that even with swarms of highly advanced specialists in the field armed with extremely expensive technology couldn't find.

So let me see. At SR we have a board of fanatics. A good portion explore every crack of the Internet to find every bit of potentially valuable info and stats related to Saints. For those of you who think that the Saints don't have one or more of their personnel to surf SR looking for a few gems from a totally free workforce, you have no idea of what goes on in the world of big business. Keep your heads buried in the sand. You never know when a Falcon is eating your legs :smilielol:

And yes, it is the off season!

Swimmer you are correct. This site is ground zero for Saints news in every form or fashion. It's a free site and good content.

It has civil discussion on every tweet, player, free agent, or even something as complicated as the bountygate litigation.

When Mickey Loomis has to choose between looking at his Facebook page or SR.com, he would be more interested in this board for sure, although he wouldn't admit it.
