Are you happy with the interim’s three wins and lower draft position? (27 Viewers)

Our draft position will be just fine and should yield an impact player, even with Loomis calling the shots. My prediction several weeks ago was a 6-11 finish and a first-round draft pick somewhere around ninth or tenth. Our roster is good enough to beat maybe the Raiders and that's it. There's perhaps a mystery about what the mindset of the Bucs will be in that last game, but I think 6-11 is still a solid prediction.

You got to give it to the NFL, making the draft the spectacle and factory of hopes and dreams that it is. Other drafts, like NBA, NHL, MLB, they don't get the fanfare the NFL draft gets. And when you consider the impact of 1-2 players to a team of 53 players, a team that's really a conglomerate of 3 autonomous teams (offense, defense, special teams), one needs to realize that 1 player is not going to make the impact that, say, a player in the NBA could have on a team that puts 5 players on the court.

And we should know better... Archie Manning was so good, he was voted to 2 pro-bowls, when pro-bowls weren't popularity contests, off 8-8 and 7-9 seasons.

We also have seen what a 7th round pick can do, out of a college better known for culinary arts that no longer has a football team.

In 2006, the Saints signed a QB who no one was sure his shoulder was going to hold up, while Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Jay Cutler were being drafted in the 1st round.

Someone showed a graphic on another thread about Washington, and how their last 6 1st round picks prior to Jayden are no longer on the team.

I don't fall for the draft hype.

Winning begets winning and losing begets losing. You want to establish an expectation in the locker room and a perception among the other 31 teams that even in a down year that the team will compete in every game.

I watch football to be entertained. Losing isn’t entertaining and I don’t have any control over what the team does to get better or not. I enjoy it when the Saints win.

I’ve seen a lot of teams in my lifetime that were perennial losers. Saints used to be one of those teams. Top 5 picks don’t come with guarantees of success.

There isn’t only one pathway to improvement.

Pretty much how I feel above....don't believe in the notion of "tanking".....

Of course you want the higher pick. The wins do absolutely nothing except decrease future talent. Even if you aren't in love with who is available at the top of the draft, you could parlay the pick into multiple later picks.

Anyone who spouts garbage like this really hasn't been paying attention.....It's the NFL, anything can happen, every game is its own story.....no one knows, though there always seems to be folks who think they do.....

EXACTLY! While Leinart, Young & Cutler were being drafted with higher picks, better players were sliding down to lower slots. Happens EVERY...DAMN...YEAR! I didn't know about the Washington 1st rounders, so that's interesting....if memory serves correctly, those picks were all pretty high 1sts too; how many were top 5? surely most of them were top 10, i'd think? Washington is one of those teams I was thinking of in my post earlier in this thread, so thank you for the additional empirical evidential support!

The draft is a bit of a crapshoot....always has been, always will be. An argument could be made for an "educated crapshoot", but still a crapshoot, nevertheless. Drafting higher guarantees NOTHING! It's WHO you pick, not WHERE you pick 'em. I'm with you SS!

Remember when Washington got 8 picks for 1? The next season, their coach, the alleged architect of the early 90's Cowboys offense, was fired, and the six seasons after that draft, they went 44-51, with only 1 winning season.

The Saints have one on their roster, Chase Young, 2nd pick overall in the 2020 draft. That didn't work well for Washington, and not exactly going well for the Saints either.

The pick doesn't mean much when you've missed as much as the Saints have. With how the cap is right now, you're not really adding much in free agency. You need about 3 drafts that hit in the trenches plus find a QB in all that madness to be contending again.

Unlike especially the NBA, the NFL draft usually has a good number of players that can help your team. The NBA doesn't. The NBA draft every year on average maybe gives 2 great players 8 good ones. Rest are backup players and or never do anything.

With baseball a lot of drafted players don't see the big leagues for a couple years, so it's hard to be excited.

He showed us who he was when he coached the Raiders. No one that awful at head coaching should be given another shot. Spagnuolo is another example, and is staying in his lane as DC ever since.

Its the one real thing I have down on Loomis. It my wildest imagination, I can't find one remotely decent reason Loomis thought it would be a good idea to make DA HC.

I don't object to giving guys 2nd chances, and CSP endorsed him (which in hindsight was probably meaningless) but after the disaster of the 1st season I can't believe Loomis stuck with him.....that was some of the worst HCing I've ever seen and I lived through the Saints in the 70's.....

A Jim Mora offensive philosophy without any of the preparation, discipline or culture....on either side of the ball.....
