Furthermore, I'd imagine that ethically, we can't run a real controlled test. You can't put 1 infected, coughing person in a room with 100 other people. 50 vaccinated, 50 not. And see who does and doesn't catch it and/or die.

Well, not in this country at least :hihi:

My kids (1st and 3rd grade) are now fully vaccinated. They don't like getting shots but it was pretty minor - they were a grumpy the first night and sore arms the next day, that was it.

They have been in-person in school since August 2020, with masks. Honestly, no lie, they haven't complained about them. My wife bought them lanyards around their necks and they just wear them comfortably. Sometimes we go somewhere and they put them on when we go inside (like a crowded store for example) without us even saying anything. Sometimes they even leave them on unintentionally when we're back outside and after a while I'll notice it and say "You can take your mask off". They really aren't bothered by them at all. And this idea that they're itching and scratching them so much that they're basically useless is silly - at least in my observation and I have spent many hours with masked children since this all began.

I do know that they're looking forward to being able to go to school without them and I think that will come in January. The middle and upper schools have already gone to masks optional and they have had two on-site vaccine clinics at the school (purely optional of course).

Kids are extremely adaptable. It's the adults that make it complicated.

I’ve taught since February in my class with kids masked up. I can tell you at least in my school it’s an absolute non issue. At all. Like no big deal whatsoever. We also have yet to have a single case that can be linked to person to person infection at school. So while it is out there in the community, we are having no issues at school, and after a bumpy start our attendance since October 1st is the same as any other year. Even when kids are outside and do not have to wear them the majority still do because they are just used to it.

during an interview with some anti maskers a couple months ago the parents were forced to admit that their children weren't bothered by the masks at all, one said his daughter loved her masks and had a bunch of different colors and designs and loved matching them to her outfits

Heck yeah. I usually have black masks, but a couple weeks ago ordered tropical scene ones. The ones the kids like are the white ones so they can decorate them and such. Of course one girl rocks a super cool Hello Kitty one. Another rocks a play on the album Straight outta Compton with Straight Outta Quarantine. Some of them have really gotten into it.

I teach at a Jr. High.
We had masks for All of last year and for the start of this year. We dropped the requirement in October I think.
It was not an issue at all. Most kids didn't have a big issue with it. Did they always wear it correctly? No, but most did and it prevented a lot of sickness. Almost no flu and very little colds and sniffles. I didn't get ill last year for the first time since I started teacing 12 years ago. I always get something. in Fall of 2019 I got walking pnemonnia for gosh sakes!
But with the masks? Almost nothing. Now with the masks off, I now have a cold for the past week and kids are starting to pass stuff around. I know this is 'normal' but the masks clearly slowed down the spread of just about all sickness.
Masks are just another layer of protection that I don't get why some hate so much. Sure it's not great, but I would much rather wear a mask than have to shut stuff down and go back to restrictions. Suck it buttercups!!

Also, I got my booster shot yesterday for the Pfizer vaccine. Man it was kind of a pain to find a place though. I am in the St. Tammany health network and they have 3 places in the Covington area to give the boosters. All 3 of them close at 11:00 am and are NOT open on weekends. Like WTF???
Do they expect people to take a day off to come get a shot that takes 5 minutes??? Kind of frustrating. Luckily, the lady on the phone told me to try the local Pharmacy and I was able to go yesterday afternoon. Boom done.
Check local places for the shots too people.
Let's all BOOST up!!!!

Maybe the kids that you teach aren't as stupid as the kids that other people are talking about?

Hope you all don't mind if I vent. My nephew called me this morning, my brother is in ICU on a vent with covid, he had cardiac arrest last night. He is a med. induced coma.
My brother has always been anti medical anything, he had a stroke a few years ago, I am pretty sure he is diabetic also. When covid came he actually told me that he would never get it. This was after I had to tell him to please not hug and kiss our 91 year old mother (before vaccines) I told him I wished I had superpowers like him but that we were choosing the vaccine.

I am so furious with him because of his thick skull. My cousin and her husband both are sick and won't go to the doctor, super anti vax. I know they don't want to admit they have covid.
I wish my brother could hear the tears in his son's voice.
I called the hospital a few minutes ago, no improvement and they have put him on his stomach.
I'm so mad at him and my cousin I don't know what to do with myself.
My cousin is my best friend dammit.
Sorry yall-

I'm sorry you are going through this man.

I wish I had more comforting words.
