One of them will do something dumb to eventually get pinched. Get caught up in making a bet for some crazy Russian guy, get kidnapped while the diamonds are attached to his arm in a briefcase, killed, arm hacked off, which will lead to later hijinks along the lines of a crazy gypsy boxer, a crime lord that feeds humans to pigs, and a dog that swallows said diamonds.

I've seen this happen before.

They should make a movie like that... I'd watch it. Might even buy the dvd.

That's freaking awesome. Is that the biggest heist in history?
Just briefly looking around the internet, doesn't appear to be close. There's been several diamond heists that were in excess of $100 MIL.

It looks like most of the biggest heists have been bank notes, art, etc. I found one list of the TOP 25 heists in history and the #1 goes to an art thief who stole over 1.2 BIL in art before being caught in 2011.

Although for some time Saddam’s scheme was one of the largest heists in history, he was toppled by a waiter named Stephane Breitwieser, a certified art collector and now thief. Although he is not known for any single heist (ok, so direct comparisons to Saddam may not be so relevant), ever since he began stealing paintings and other works of art in March 1995 he successfully made off with over 239 pieces from over 172 museums worldwide, gaining a total of over $1.2 billion before being caught in November of 2011.
The list:
