As Soon as the Saints sign a couple Big Names (1 Viewer)

I just wanna see if Emmanuel Butler can bring his preseason practice habits into the regular season or heck even into preseason games.

I want to see the Saints address the WR (via FA and/or the Draft) in such a way that even if Emmanuel Butler realizes his full potential, he only cracks the Saints 53 man roster as the #4 WR.

No more rolling the dice and hoping some diamond in the rough emerges out of the ether... Get it done!

Saints ain't gone sign diddly squat. Long arse Goddell got his little minions not calling the game right Saints not going nowhere. Don't matter who they sign. CB and WR need upgrades but Saints a go get a DE because they highly covet him and he want meet his full potential in 4 years. We need potential now not 4 years down no road. Smh!!

I think Butler’s training camp “emergence” had way more to do with the overall weakness in the WR corp after CGM (easy to look decent when compared to the invisible man Tre’Quan Smith, an older and fading Ted Ginn, and blocking WRs like LJ Humphries, Keith Kirkwood) than his skills and overhype by sportsmedia looking for something to talk about. The fact the Saints were clearly struggling at WR and he was never called up from the practice squad says a lot.

I didn’t attend any practices so I didn‘t see him excel there. I did see him in the preseason (I know he was coming off an injury so it was a very limited sample). He was targeted twice - one was an uncatchable overthrow and the other was a perfect throw from Taysom Hill that hit Butler in the hands which he dropped. About as unimpressive as you can get. I really hope he does breakout this next season but I also won‘t be surprised if he ends up being another - Lee Deramus, Mike Hass, Nick Toon, etc.

I really hope the Saints use a draft pick or three getting CGM help (get a couple of WRs and a young TE). If Butler emerges great the more weapons you have the harder you are to stop.

Saints build through the draft, saints don't pay big money for what a player has done on another team that won't pay then

The biggest need going into last offseason was a #2 WR... the Saints opted to sign Jared Cook and roll the dice that Cam Meredith, TQS, or Kirky (to a lesser extent) would step up.
Meredith was cut during the offseason
TQS didn’t improve
Kirky got hurt and never got healthy...

Now they go into this offseason... and guess what?
....a legit #2 WR is still the biggest need!

In the playoff loss last Sunday... the Vikings made a point to try to force the Saints to have someone other than CGM beat them. TQS dropped his chance... Cook made a few catches, but inexplicably went to the sideline after every play he made... Playoff Josh Hill is dead and gone...

It took a 3rd string QB and an UDFA return specialist to generate any real spark for the offense... and it wasn’t enough.
Do you have to depress me even more? TQS was starting to catch passes; Cook was catching some. And then the Vikes. Other than CGM we need to blow up the WR room and get both free agents and draft picks. It was obvious we had no 2 WR since the Minnesota Miracle. I think they finally saw it when they worked out AB. That was a sign of desperation.

I believe this what's best for the team. Going out on free agency scares me. Getting a few solid guys without breaking the bank has worked wonder for us. But I am happier to see our guys get compensated first. Looking back, we entertained getting players like Suh or Brown and to think it was a blessing not to sign them. Demario Davis and AJ Klein wasn't household names but solid contributor for their former teams. Those are the type of guys we should be targeting.

When Calvin Johnson had his break-out season for the Lions in 2008... the Lions went 0-16.
The Saints are a much better team than those Lions, but it takes more than 1 great WR

Yep. And so far the streak of any team with a top paid number one wideout not winning a Super Bowl continues.
