There was alot of talk before FA began that he would pass the 64m mark set by by Clements last year......i'm curious as to why he could'nt get more....how much of an impact did the Superbowl outcome go towards changing the mindsets of GM's towards the CB position....comments ladies and gentlemen....:dunno:

Well, sometimes it is hard to really compare contracts. Samual's contract is front loaded. A lot of contracts are back loaded and you never know if you're REALLY going to make the money or not. With a front loaded contract ($32M in the first 3 years, $20M guaranteed) you may actually wind up putting more money in your pocket than a bigger back loaded contract.

Apples and oranges...

It's still well below what he was looking for. He had initial expectations of "$30 million guaranteed". No matter how his agent spins it, $20 million guaranteed is significantly less then what Samuel had wanted and even less then what Clements got last year ($22 million).

Either Samuel took less money to specifically play for Philadelphia or he (as well as most fans) vastly overestimated his market value before Free Agency.

....this is what i'm curious about, it seems like the decision was made very quickly and i was wondering how many people (teams) were really in the bidding for him....while his contract is good it did'nt meet the buzz expectations.....i was just interested if anything had come across the blogs that influenced the decision...

Agreed. The timing of the decision also supports a

1) The level of interest was not what was expected

or

2) He had some intense desire to play in Philly over anywhere else

Otherwise you'd imagine he'd shop around some before accepting a deal so far below what he had openly stated he wanted. Briggs, for instance, still hasn't signed.
