An attorney representing New Orleans Saints offensive lineman Matt Lehr declined to say Tuesday whether his client is being investigated by federal authorities for illegal distribution of performance-enhancing substances but did stress that, either way, Lehr is not a party to any illegal activity.

"I have every confidence based upon numerous things that Matt did nothing wrong," attorney Paul E. Coggins said. ".. .That's why I expect Matt to play in the NFL this year and for many years to come."

A report late Monday in The New York Times quoted two unnamed lawyers alleging Lehr is being investigated by the U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District of Texas for distribution of performance-enhancing drugs and that another unnamed player from the Atlanta Falcons has been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury in Texas.
