Austin draft scenarios/Sproles trade speculation (**MERGED**) (1 Viewer)

Reggie bush should have been a wr. He would have had a much more productive career that way.

I like Tavon Austin, he is truly a playmaker/game changer on offence and as a return specialist, but I would rather trade back if we get a 2nd rounder and whoever's 1st.

What Tavon Austin offers on offence and special team play we have a former St Aug/LSU player and New Orleans born kid who would love to redeem himself and has what we need even more; a nickle back with great speed and a knack for getting to the ball and making plays both on defence and as a return specialist; Tyrann Mathieu.

If that edge pass rusher isn't there at 15, or a LT that will protect Drew for the next
five years plus+, well I'm all for trading back.

I think/hope Tyrann will be there in the middle of the third and wears the Black and Gold
and contributes from day one making plays on the D and ST play for years to come.

I'm sorry but you don't get rid of a proven veteran in Sproles who broke the NFL All-Purpose yards record for a rookie who has yet to step foot on a NFL field. Austin may be the next great thing but he could flop.

IMO players like Austin who use thier speed as their main weapon in college are soon to figure out they can't do that in the NFL (like Reggie) as most players are extremely fast and take much better angles than college players. I hope Austin all the best but if the players we covet aren't there at 15 then I would rather trade down and gain some picks to replenish our team than to stock pile players at positions we are already strong at. Drew spreads the ball around to much to invest in another player when we already have Sproles and Moore.

If we are worried about losing Sproles in 2015 I promise there will be players in the next two drafts that people will compare to Austin or that will be better.

I had posted this video in the other Tavon Austin tread. I'm not saying we should get rid of Sproles, but could you imagine Austin and Sproles on the field at the same time?? seriously, what would defenses do?

The most Dangerous Difference maker in the draft

No

The Vikings can draft 2 starting WRs with their picks. Austin is nice but not worth all that.

You are correct he is nice. He is not all that. There is no way in hell I draft him. No way. If there is no value pick on defense and no value pick at OT I trade down. Austin will not be as good as Sproles this year or next. If they can't start this is its a wasted pick.

While I agree with most of what you're saying, I feel Austin's speed is a plus. It's his cuts man. He has great vision and his cuts gets him to where he needs to be. In my humbled opinion, that's his main weapon. Then his speed comes in. He makes defenders look silly.

If Carolina and Tampa pass on him, we get him with something to prove to two teams in our division. If Atlanta, San Fran, Minnesota gets him...that's just more headaches for our defense.

But I could be wrong. If we do get him at 15, I wouldn't be upset though.

Haha. I love how this thread keeps poppin back up. Austin is the sh*t. Sorry.
haha I just looked at the title and had forgot it had a 'Sproles trade' in there. While I agree with you that Austin is awesome, I can't condone a Sproles trade. I rather us keep em both and give opposing defenses nightmares. Sproles and Austin in the backfield...seriously? haha possibilities, endless.

O I was never for trading sproles. Keep them both. Give up cadet. Obviously this staff had something in mind for him being that they were the highest suitors ($ wise) for him after last years draft. Sproles isn't gonna be around forever. Who knows what will happen after 2014 when his contract is up. What people fail to realize is that even though we're trying to improve our defense, it's highly unlikely that drafting whomever is there at 15 or after wont do much more for us. He'd most likely be something "situational". I like keeping options open. He bucs and panthers would be stupid to let Austin slip by.
