I hope that the movie does it justice, I'm guarded because it's Shymalan though I do hope he get's it right and can put his career back on track with this film. Anyone else interested in it? I re-watched the entire series on Netflix streaming with my 6 year old daughter and she loved it, so now I have a valid excuse with my wife for going to watch it.... :9:

My GF had lunch with the original creators of the animated series (my GF used to work on the series), and they were not pleased. They didn't like the casting and etc. Even though they are listed as exec. producers, they didn't have much say. Here's hoping that it doesn't suck.

It's bad, as in "Wild Wild West" will no longer be considered the nadir of July 4th weekend releases. It feels off from the get-go and never gets its footing or a sense of balance with the material.
Worse than "Wild Wild West"? Wow, now that's bad.

racist jokes? really who cares? comedians of color make racist jokes about themselves all the time.

But really that isn't the point. The movie was suposed to be "fantastic"

Not the fact they were racist, its the fact they were awfully old and outdated, and just not good.

Yeah, I guess 30 year old racist jokes and Kevin Kline are funny. Kenneth Branaugh in a steam power spider? How could it go wrong.
The Wild Wild West did suck, but Kline is a capable comedic actor when he isn't overselling it and the material is there. I just keep thinking of the Kevin Smith story about the producer he was saddled with when he was signed on to write the Nick Cage version of Superman. The producer wanted huge mechanical spiders to battle Superman. "Spiders are the most deadly killers in the insect kingdom."

He'd later work on Wild Wild West.

As for the Airbender....:covri:

The Last Airbender isn’t that much different from the rest of this summer’s generally dire multiplex fare—from The A-Team to Jonah Hex—which started with established properties and half-decent ideas, then cranked up the volume, velocity, and effects to the point where neither sense nor tender moments could escape. But it is remarkable in one respect: It’s the worst of them.

I'll probably be in the same boat. I'll still enjoy it though. I wasn't happy with the DBZ movie but still enjoyed it.

Dang... this movie's sitting at 6% on Rotten Tomatoes with 54 reviews counted. Looks like I'll just have to wait for the BluRay release!
