Gangs of New York- Possibly greatest of the 3. Great acting, great story.
Saving Private Ryan- No better war movie says I.
Gone With the Wind- Great Piece about the South during the great war of Northern aggression.

Any others?

When it comes to the civil war genre, Glory is pretty spot on.

Really looking forward to Hacksaw Ridge. I have read the biography and the trailer looks like it will do it justice. The true story is so unbelievable, people that don't know it will say it is far-fetched when they see it portrayed.

On a small scale, Cold Mountain was good too.

I would have to say The Godfather is also American history, in a sense, and the greatest of all time. Network, also very American, comes in second.

I met a man who had landed at Normandy on D Day and had been a consultant on the set of Saving Private Ryan. He told me that if I want to see a movie that looks and sounds accurate and true to WWII, that's the one. He said the D Day scene and all. The weapons, uniforms, vehicles, buildings, etc., looked and sounded spot on.

At this rate, Idiocracy...
