Best rock song intros (1 Viewer)

Smoke On The Water -Deep Purple

You Really Got Me -Van Halen

Whole Lotta Love -Led Zep

Spirit Of The Radio -Rush

Along The Watchtower -Jimi Hendrix

Sunshine Of Your Love -Cream

Actually, it's The Spirit of Radio. A lot of people make this mistake. It's like the airplane..The Spirit of St. Louis. Get it?

My choice:
Harvester of Sorrow - Metallica. The way that the intro just builds and builds, it's heaviness is massive. Great riff too. Probably my favorite Metallica song (been a fan since '86).

Surprised none of the Floyd fanboys added the full version of Shine on you Crazy Diamond.

Tempting, seriously tempting in fact, and an easy winner of a 'best 4 notes' poll, but I'll go for ...

The Who: Won't Get Fooled Again
Queen: Brighton Rock
Pat Travers Band: Stevie

"Gimme Shelter" and "Can't You Hear Me Knockin" by the Stones
"Thunderstruck" by ACDC
"Stop" by Janes Addiction

And these are a few of my favorite things.

"Walk"-Pantera
"Revolution Is My Name"-Pantera
"Diary Of A Madman"-Ozzy Osbourne
"The End Of Everything"-Trivium

Deep Purple -- "Knockin' At Your Back Door"

Rush -- "The Camera Eye"

Boston -- "Foreplay/Long Time"

Led Zeppelin -- "In The Evening"

Rainbow -- "The Gates of Babylon"

Queen -- "One Vision"

Triumph -- "I Live For The Weekend"

this is really an intro to a whole album.....

When the going gets tough
And the stomach acids flow
The cold wind of conformity
Is nipping at your nose
When some trendy new atrocity
Has brought you to your knees
Come with us we'll sail the
Seas of Cheese

What, nobody mentioned "Stairway"?

It's a good topic: the kind of songs that make you stop whatever you're doing and listen to the radio from the first note.

Or, going way back, Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4" which was considered the coolest intro when I was a kid--I'm semi-embarassed to remember that the intro was our favorite thing to play in junior high school band!

Can't go wrong with Terry Kath, Peter Cetera and Danny Seraphine on that one.

Van Halen - "Hot for Teacher"
ZZ Top - "La Grange"
Led Zep - "Immigrant Song"

I should have, but I thought it would be done to death. There I go thinking again.:covri:
