Best Video Game Soundtrack? (1 Viewer)

Neither did I. SA had one good station, the one with AIC, Faith No More and Helmet.

VC had all good stations with the exception of the spanish language one.

VC also had a better cast.

why are we discussing cast??

San Andreas also had Slick Rick, Public Enemy, Erik B & Rakim, Rob Base, Biz Markie, Tupac, Dre, Too Short, NWA, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, Snopp Dogg, etc

Can we really count the GTA soundtracks?

yes

This one takes the cake for me as the single best song AND intro to a video game ever (on the NES).

I think this discussion could be broken down between 2 groups: chiptunes and CD audio. Oldschool NES games, for example, required that extra little bit of creativity in trying to squeeze emotion out of 2 square waves, a triangle and some static. As the consoles gained more bits, the sound chips got a little more complex and the music got a little more compelling.

Once CD audio was commonplace, it became more of a matter of budget and scope.

I could spend years talking about the good old days, but mostly I'd be talking about Castlevania. Before that game, videogame music was basically just syncopated noise. Konami threw down the gauntlet with that one.

In the modern era: God of War. Videogame soundtracks, at least the type meant to emulate the feel of an epic film score, peaked here IMO. I'm ready to beat someone's *** everytime I hear it.

Great look at video game music comparing 8-16 bit chiptune scores and epic symphonies of the past 2 game generations.

Mass Effect had a cool soundtrack.

The goonies on nes probably had the worst soundtrack. I can't go a day without it popping into my head:

yes

Ray Liotta, William Fitchner, Tom Sizemore, Dennis Hopper, Burt Reynolds, Luis Guzman, Phillip Michael Thomas, Danny Trejo, Gary Busey, Lee Majors.

So, Vice City > San Andreas.

oh, i could have sworn this thread was about the music in video games

but since you went there

"Like the previous two GTA games, the voice actors of San Andreas include notable celebrities, such as David Cross, Andy Dick, Ron Foster, Samuel L. Jackson, James Woods, Peter Fonda, Charlie Murphy, Frank Vincent, Chris Penn, Danny Dyer, Sara Tanaka, William Fichtner, Wil Wheaton, rappers Ice T, Chuck D, Frost, MC Eiht and The Game and musicians George Clinton, Axl Rose, Sly and Robbie, and Shaun Ryder.[23] Young Maylay makes his debut as the protagonist, Carl."

so, SA > VC
