In 2007 and 2008, we just couldn't finish off anyone in the 4th quarter. Examples (just a few that stick out in my mind):

Second Tampa Bay game in 2007: After a tough first half, the offense scores 0 points in the second half. Our defense gets a pick-six and a safety, but we still allow Luke McCown of all people to throw a TD in the final minutes of the game to pull ahead and win it.

Against the Redskins in 2008: After a hard-fought three quarters, we allow the Redskins to score 14 points in the last five minutes to win by 5.

Against the Vikings in 2008: Reggie had 2, almost 3 TD punt returns. The Vikings tried SO hard to just hand us the game, but we just wouldn't take it. Vikings score 10 points in the last four and half minutes to win by 3.

Now the good news:

The Saints in the first 5 games of 2009, have outscored their opponents 52-10 in the fourth quarter. 10 of those points were garbage time scores when we were already ahead by double-digits and had our backups in. The other 2 were from an intentional safety. The defense is shutting down the game in the fourth quarter, and the offense is keeping control of the ball and continuing to score.

And that, my friends, is one of the main reasons we'll still be watching the boys in Black and Gold come February.
