Nikon and Leica are top in the binocular world, but there are a lot of decent brands. It mainly depends on budget, desired compactness, and other intended uses. Look for coated optics, compare field of view (more is probably better for your needs), weather resistant or sealed if they'll be used for other outdoor activities, roof prism at high end, porro prism at low end (there are some decent low end roofs though).
I use Nikon Premier LX which are nice and relatively compact but probably not worth it for only sports. There are a lot of quality models available, Nikon (Monarch/Sportstar), Pentax, Minox, Celestron, and Bushnell (probably easiest to find locally) are some of the common brands with decent affordable models. http://www.birding.com/binocular_guide.asp is a basic binocular guide, birding oriented but the general info still applies to sports.
