How ironic is the "tolerance wall"
===========================================================

Updated at 5:30 p.m. ET -- Ryan Andresen had recently completed the requirements to earning his Eagle Scout award, including building a "tolerance wall" for victims of bullying like himself, but his Scoutmaster would not sign off on honoring him with the Boy Scouts’ highest ranking because he is gay, his mother said.

Not only will Andresen not get the award, but the Boy Scouts of America said late Thursday in a statement that because of his sexual orientation, “he is no longer eligible for membership in Scouting.”

The Boy Scouts of America have a longstanding policy denying membership to gay leaders and Scouts, which they reaffirmed earlier this year after a two-year confidential review of the controversial ban. Andresen’s father, Eric, resigned as an assistant Scoutmaster after the Scoutmaster for Troop 212 in Moraga, Calif., confirmed Tuesday night that Ryan wouldn’t get the award, Karen Andresen told NBC News....................

Geez, this coming from an organization where the transition level from a Cub Scout to a Boy Scout is a Weblos.

Maybe he could transfer to the Girl Scouts......they are gay friendly.

I don't understand why this is an issue. Does this group receive government funding? Are they part of the school system? The best answer to fix this problem is ignore it and start a more tolerant scout organization. As a private organization they should be allowed to set the rules to their club any way they want it to be. I'm not saying that their opinions are right.

Exactly. Or go ahead and accept gays. What's wrong with innocent young scouts being in a gay scout leaders charge? Where are we heading?

There is a portion of society that still equate homosexuality with pedophilia, and that's pretty sad (and ignorant.) Hopefully more people will connect the dots and see that past (misguided) beliefs pretty much set the stage for the abuse that occurred in this and other organizations. "Joe Straight could not possibly abuse boys because he's not gay..." :jpshakehead:

Not a thing.

I have a 9 year old son, and my wife and I have no issues with him spending time with gay men or women.

In fact, he has a set of brothers that are his friends that were adopted by gay women. Those mothers do a great job raising the boys, and they adopted both of them because they didn't want to split up the brothers.

The idea that someone thinks that one's sexual preference drives whether one is a pedophile is laughable. The cases of molesting that I am aware of have generally been afflicted by "family men".

Somewhat ironically, my friends used to always call the organization, The Boy Scouts, gay when we were kids.
