Boycott Chick fil a? (2 Viewers)

Since we have deviated from the sandwich to actual chicken for a little bit.....The Winn Dixie on Airline in Prairieville has the best-fried chicken I've eaten in a while.
Winn frickin' Dixie.
Don't knock it til you've tried it.
We have a Safeway across the street, and their fried chicken is actually surprisingly decent. It's not great every time, but it's usually pretty good. And the price is half of what it would be at Popeyes.

I find grocery store fried chicken to generally be average at worst and usually quite a bit better than that.

As long as the people involved in making it care about doing a good job (keeping equipment clean, properly monitoring oil, checking on finished pieces periodically to gauge seasoning/greasiness,etc.) ... there's no reason a grocery store can't make good chicken.

I have found similarly to you. Not so much that grocery store chicken is universally awesome -- more that with not much looking around, you can find pleasant surprises.

EDIT: Rouses on Power Blvd near Kawanee in Metairie makes legitimately great chicken -- both bone-in and fingers. Unlike most grocery stores, though, they have gigantic open kitchen, probably 1/5 of the store's floor space. And they do a huge amount of catering.

But yeah ... those Rouses chicken fingers are like three of Cane's fingers nowadays (yep, Cane's have been shrinking).

FYI -The Popeyes on Route 1 in Alexandria near the Costco still has onion rings.

VA? If so, good to know....my son lives in Arlington and loves Popeyes for some reason.....

Zaxby's is a Canes clone. Same chicken, same fries, same bread, and very similar sauce

I disagree, I have one about 10 minutes away (Shallotte NC), their chicken tender salad is very good, the fries are the same style (crinkly cut) but are much thicker than Canes, they also have a ton of different sauces (none of which I've tried yet)....maybe not all Z's are the same?

There is a Brothers on Vets ( corner of Lafreniere and Vets ) that is PACKED every day.

If by Lafreniere you mean Downs Rd by the entrance of the park that is the one near my folks former home, the chicken there is outstanding....

Yup, I've had good fried chicken from Giant of all places....because (and I was just about to post something similar).....below......

it is bland, thats why they give you cane sauce.
But the reason i like Canes is two reasons, they are opposite ends of the spectrum. When i am on my keto, they will cook them naked. But when i am not on my Keto, they will cook the chicken and the fries extra crispy.
But i don't eat there too often, IMO they are getting close to pricing themselves out of business.
My daughter works at the mothership Cane's right off of LSU campus, and told us something we didn't know...you can ask for their honey mustard sauce instead of Cane's sauce. My husband said it was a game changer for him, since he doesn't like the Cane's sauce.

The fried chicken I miss is what we got growing up...Mack's Chicken in a Box on Gen. Meyer in Algiers. They'd load up a cardboard box with french fries, put a mess of fried chicken on top, and tie the box with a string. By the time you walked out the door from picking it up, the grease was soaking through the cardboard box bottom. Best fried chicken ever.

Yep, I always asked for the honey mustard. The Cane's sauce is alright, but I liked the honey mustard much more. You just have to be sure to ask for it when ordering.

Zuppardo's on Vets is actually very good.

Best fried chicken in the city is McHardy's on Broad IMHO.

There's an old McKenzie's converted to a Chicken in a Box on Gentilly just off Elysian Fields that is just like that.

Was Mac's at the same location as the current Chubbie's Chicken in Algiers, Gen Meyer at Huntlee? People seem to like Chubbie's a lot these days.

I like Cane's sauce, but I love a good honey mustard on chicken. Don't go to Cane's much these days, but next time I do ... I'll ask for the honey mustard. Surprised it's not shown on the drive-thru menu.

Isn't the Cane's sauce basically just like a mayo/mustard/ketchup mix?

Idk what the ingredients are, but it's something like what that mix would be. But some love it, some hate it. I like it in moderation. Prefer honey mustard tho.
