I read where Mickey and Sean said some things about paying more attention to the defensive side of the ball but that BPA was still the guiding principle for the draft (at least for our first rounder).
I can't help but think that if picking BPA at #10 lands us an offensive player that it'd not be the BDA (Best Decision Availble).
Does BPA mean that we will find the best defensive player available or simply whomever is the highest rated regarldesss of position? I ask this rhetorically. I mean, I know the answer is the latter but in our case maybe the (BDA) best decision available is to--provided that there isn't a worthy defensive player on the board at #10-- trade down to a spot where the defensive talent is commensurate with the value of the pick in regards to what number the pick is. To me, that's the best thing to do OTHER than doing "whatever" it takes to move up for Ellis or Dorsey.

I hear you, we need defense and if at 10 the guy we want is taken, why not trade down get more picks (for more players) and get the next defensive guy on your board...I just hope these guys have the "ability" to help us and we arent just drafting the guy because he plays the position (Shanle, Simoneau, Allen, Hodge, Watson, Fincher) they all played the position, but other than that they brought nothing to the table, we need guys who were playmakers for there college team, and hope that they bring that to the Saints Defense...which makes me want Crable (LB from Michigan) he is like the next Julian Peterson, can play with his hands down or pass coverage, long arms and strong at the point of attack...he'll run a 4.5 4.6 at the combine for sure.

it's been overly stated that likelihood of tradin down is about nill, as all the players that are the one's to have are in the top 8. after 8, it's 15 -25.. you have to have someone want 10 to be a partner.

People talk about trading down like we can do it easily, but they fail to recongnize the point you made about how the talent drops off after the 1st 8 picks and the next 15-20 players will have similar grades. If anything it's more likely that we trade up instead of trading down.

Well...if the next 15-20 players have similar grades, then we should take comfort in the fact that they will draft a defensive player, if they are unable to trade down, as there will not be an offensive player who is far and away better than the best defensive player. Logical?

that's what I'm, ultimately, advocating
