I'm hoping we can sign these guys and just draft for defense. The law firm had 5.0 YPC running behind Smith last year, imagine what our backs could do running behind him and Evans. Not the best pass protector in the world, but gets it done on the right side. Albert could lock down the left side. DLP is very underrated and is a good center. Albert, Grubbs, DLP, Evans, and Smith would give us a nasty run blocking line as well as give Brees all the time in the world. We all know how bad secondaries look without a pass rush, it would only be worse with Drew. These two free agent signings would make our offense unstoppable IMO.

Brandon Albert's injury history worries me and Smith will be tagged if the Bengals don't get him resigned.

Not pooping just being realistic. I wouldn't say no to Albert I would want to have a solid backup just in case.

Another option would be sign Albert and resign Bushrod then move him to RT where he could excel given his skill set. Then roll with Brown and Strief as depth.

Would we be able to afford either one of them? I think retaining Bushrod is a priority for us, as long as we don't break the bank on him. As someone pointed out in a another thread today, chemistry is important. He's not a world beater, and I'm sure we could find someone better in free agency, but our system doesn't require us to have perennial all-pros at the tackle positions. Though I think an upgrade at RT is necessary.

If however Bushrod does demand too much and we go our separate ways, a guy I would like us to look at is Max Starks (PIT). He wasn't expected to start, or hell, even be on the team the last 2 years (as he was cut before the 2011 season, then re-signed again). But he managed to work his way into the starting lineup, even though they had drafted tackles to take over for him. He won't be in their plans this year, and I'd think he'd be a good stop gap for 2-3 years, until we can draft and develop another late round stud. Plus, he'd be waaay cheaper than an Brandon Albert or Andre Smith.

Bengals tagged Michael Johnson

ETWhoDat's dream is still alive.

The question now is cost Smith will probably be looking at the area of mil a year. Albert though could probably signed for around 7 mil per year which Loom is could make that work.

I like the idea of retaining Bush rod and moving him to RT and bringing in Albert at LT.

Andre Smith wants 9mil a year. I doubt we even try to get him. That's a lot for a dude that barely found his stride. He could even drop in performance when he gets the big payday

we do need upgrades at both tackles, so I hope we sign someone better than Bushrod and strief.
