So if we decide we still want to keep him after two years, I hope we aren't on the hook for a lot of money for those three years that will automatically void, considering we will have to pay him a new contract on top of that.

I guess it makes sense in that, we guarantee all of the contract 46 mil (or whaterver it was).

Going rate for a qb of his stature is 22-25 per year, so we are on the hook for 46 for this and next season. The cap hit of the 46 mil is spread over five seasons and if he doesn't hit the wall, we negotiate next off season and extend a couple more years with some guaranteed money.

I get it now.

Seems like this deal is definitely Saints friendly.
