Trent Johnson, BBall coach from Stanford
from CBSsports.com:
LSU reaches deal with Stanford coach Johnson
April 9, 2008
By Gary Parrish
Stanford coach Trent Johnson has reached a deal in principle to become the next head coach at LSU, a source told CBSSports.com on Wednesday morning.
An official announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.
Johnson will take over at LSU after four seasons at Stanford. He's coming off a Sweet 16, but is leaving at a good time considering he is set to lose the Lopez Twins. Plus, Johnson only had one year remaining on his contract at Stanford, where he led the Cardinal to three NCAA tournament appearances.

anyone jumping up and down over this hiring?
not me. not saying he is a bad coach just not the type I think we need to take the BB program to the next level.
I wonder if Stanford would have rehired Montgomery if they knew this was happening?
I don't know why not. The girls do and the state certainly produces the caliber talent that can lead teams to the Final Four on a consistent basis. Brady was a good recruiter and a good enough motivator, but a horrible coach and he managed to get LSU to a Final Four.Good hire for LSU in my opinion. I'm not sure LSU will ever be a team that competes yearly for the NCAA title, but Johnson will certainly bring consistency that has been lacking in Baton Rouge.

If Johnson can lock up the state talent in basketball like Saban did and miles has continued for football, then LSU's men's team will be a perennial contender just like Kentucky and Florida.
Johnson is an emotional guy and he has shown that while he is capable of attracting talent (in an environment that is not really ideal for recruiting/coaching basketball) he can win with less than the most talented players at Nevada and Stanford. I see him as a West Coast version of Anthony Grant.
