Special teams is 1/3rd of the game. No more, no less. Equivalent to offense and defense. There's no reason to not have your best players out there making plays. It's unfortunate, yes. But that's it. Just unfortunate.

Can this be the final straw for McMahon? Please?

Younger WhoDats may not know it, but Bobby April was the Saints' ST Coach in the Ditka era (1996-1999). He was lost in the attrition when the Saints gave Ditka (and his staff) the left foot of fellowship squarely on the gluteus maximus in 1999. **SIGH**

Bobby April has won NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year twice (2004 & 2008):

:gosaints:

We've fielded a special teams unit for a game and a half without Breaux, so apparently it is possible. Hindsight is 20/20, but I hope when he comes back he sticks to just defense.

We ***** about special teams play. Then we ***** about playing good players in ST

Seriously what do people want us to do? We carry extra RBs that can play ST the coaches get flamed. We play starters and they get injred and the coaches get flamed. We play normal positional backups that aren't devoted ST players and the coaches get flamed.

OBVIOUSLY, the solution here is to get one Kickoff specialist to kick it out the endzone, go for it on all 4th downs, and only go for two point conversions.

ST problem solved

There are not enough players on the active roster to not have starters playing special teams. Injuries happen. It is a physical sport. To try to cast blame on anything but crappy luck is nothing more than looking for somethings no tangable to blame. **** happens. This time it happen to Breaux.

I am not a mathematician but

11 starters on offense
11 starters on defense

22 total subtracted from 48 spots on the active roster

That means there are 26 guys not starting. Only need 11 for special teams.

Really? The only way my number one corner would be on special teams, is if he's a top return guy in the league. Yes he shouldn't be playing on a damn return unit unless it's an absolute emergency. If not for the loss of him and PJ, I would think we have a legit shot to turn this thing around. We could easily be 2-0, but not having those 2 guys will be HUGE. I was really looking forward to Breaux becoming one of the best corners in the league and PJ becoming a great 2nd corner. I still think those 2 will end up being one of the better duos in the league

I fully understand that some starters are going to end up on ST. But if you've got a shutdown CB who is not a playmaker on ST, then he doesn't belong there. Breaux doesn't belong there.

With that said, wherever Breaux happens to be on the field, a leg can get broken. It's just bad luck. Problem is, we can't seem to get away from bad luck...
